Richard Lugar may get a cabinet post
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 03:16 PM by Bleachers7
Now that the whining about appointments has begun, let me share one with you. Richard Lugar will probably get a cabinet spot. Why? How do I know that? Well, because Obama really likes Richard Lugar. He listed him as an adviser during the last debate. And Lugar would probably do it. Get used to it.

4. And he's worked with Biden.
We'll get used to a lot of changes, like civility. Let's contribute to it.

15. They've worked closely together; he's #2,
and seems Biden respects him.

Not against war; hasn't 'spoken out' against war, has stayed w. rep party pretty much. He's soft-spoken and thoughtful, I think, and well-liked.

16. They don't.
Mitch "Eli Lilly tool" Daniels got re-elected last night. Oddly enough, 1/3 of his voters did vote for Obama though.

and Iraq. And the same with Hagel. And it seems McCain was also a party to this bill, so they had it covered. Seems to me that we are simply shifting our attentions, money and soldiers to the area around the Caspian Sea (where we have major pipeline/oil and gas interests among other concerns). As you'll recall, Unocal, was originally slated for a pipeline through Afghanistan region, but it turned out to be too volatile to go forward with it.

If you google either name and the word "Afghanistan", you ought to come up with a wealth of info.

Here's just a taste -

S. 579 <106th>: Silk Road Strategy Act of 1999 (updated in 2006).
A bill to amend the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 to target assistance to support the economic and political independence of the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia.

IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES
MARCH 10, 1999
Mr. BROWNBACK (for himself, Mr. SMITH of Oregon, Mr. BYRD, Mr. HAGEL,
Mr. DODD, Mr. LUGAR, Mr. KYL, Mr. HATCH, Mr. GRAMS, Mr. CHAFEE,
Mr. HELMS, Mr. THOMAS, Mr. MCCAIN, Mr. BURNS, Mrs. HUTCHISON,
Mr. COCHRAN, and Mr. CONRAD) introduced the following bill; which was
read twice and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations.

"The Plan" outlined by this bill seems to have remained intact and is going forward:

14. I would prefer Hagel
He has been calling for talks in the Middle East since 2001 and is strongly against empty motions. They say he has been holding back a bill on Iranian sanctions in the Senate all by himself.
