Here's his "thank you" video titled "Signs of Hope and Change", which Hissyspit posted but it got mostly overlooked in the excitement of Election Night.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDa6CwzSA74If anyone's wondering "what next?" it gives a strong hint. The basic idea I draw from it is that we should not be an "all about me" America. That is very much a Repub idea, not a traditional American one. The feeling I get is that it might be time to start being "Americans" now, and not so much think of ourselves as members of specific interest groups as we have in the past... not AA, or Latino, or G/L, or believers or non-believers, or old or young, or women, or whatnot... but looking out for the good of ALL on a level playing field, and ensuring opportunity and a basic safety net for all regardless. His election HAS somewhat made pigeon-holing ourselves into sub-groups obsolete.
Actually, I think we were heading in a more liberal direction, along with Europe, after WW2 but we got kind of sidetracked after JFK's murder and all the others and the VN war, into the Reagan-era detour to nowhere which we see for the deadend it is now. So we have a little catching up to do.
It's up to us to transform now... ourselves, and then our communities, using the tools that he and we created and our experience during this election. We built the organization and learned to come together rather than splintering, to do this. Now we do more of the same. Thinking of ourselves as Americans, this time. Just that.
We, and he, got a lot of people involved and informed. The more we do that, the more change will happen. But in doing so Obama got elected without the usual begging to corporate lobbyists. That's a great thing! We have gone outside the "system". That hasn't quite sunk in yet, to most people - what that means, and the opportunity it gives, and the ALTERNATE MACHINE he has built... us.
Gee, kinda like it was meant to be, huh? Gotta love it!
Going forward, we should ask ourselves about each proposal, "does this help all Americans or only a small overly-rich interest group?" and "does this preserve the level playing field, or create arbitrary advantage/disadvantage?" The more we become the party of all Americans, the longer run we will have.
Anyway, just my thoughts on watching the video. It made me think of another song line, from "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House...
"they come, they come, to build a wall between us... you know they won't win, don't let them win"
and
"you'll never see the end of the road while you're travellin' with me"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbBn4_yHcpIThere is freedom within,
There is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're travelling with me
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
Now I'm towing my car,
There's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing
Me suspicions but there's no proof
In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to
The door of your heart
Only the shadows ahead
Barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of
Liberation and release
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
Don't ever let them win...
