Conservative means stay with the old ways, liberal means your mind is open, progressive means to keep up with the times. We can't return to the fifties or nineties or stay where we are. We need to progress and that's progress.

11. I Think Many Folks Use Labels As A Substitute For Analysis and Critical Thought

For example, you have DU'ers complaining that Hillary is too conservative to be SoS, and you have former Clinton confident, Dick Morris, saying that Hillary Clinton is even more liberal and left of Obama on foriegn policy matters. Both accusations are equally uninformative, because no specific issues and stances are being discussed.

Personally, I wish I could just block all of the idealogical purity and label threads because they just invite flamewars that typically leave one dumber for having read them. The better approach is to examine and discuss the issues that are causing you to oppose a candidate, rather than engage in idealogical name-calling.

For example, does Hillary oppose Obama's commitment to withdraw from Iraq? Does she oppose Obama's commitment to fix the war in Afganistan? Does she oppose his commitment to more diplomacy? If not, then there is no problem.
