In his column last Sunday for the San Francisco Chronicle, former Mayor Willie Brown had a piece of advice for blue-state Democrats looking to score presidential Inauguration tickets: Call a Republican.

Preferably, a Republican in Oklahoma.

“I mean, how many people from Oklahoma think this is the nation's biggest historical moment?” the mayor ventured. “My bet is, not many. So lawmakers there will have plenty of tickets to give away.”

Maybe not. An informal survey of red-state congressional offices last week showed a surprising ticket crunch in places that you — and Willie Brown — might least suspect.

“I think it’s silly to assume there are no Democrats in a Republican district,” says Sara Lasure, communications director for Arkansas Republican Rep. John Boozman, whose office is among those feeling the ticket squeeze

Hey, not that I have it like that, financially, to attend. But, I need to call a Rethug in Oklahoma to guarantee my ticket? If I did have it like that, that's a call I couldn't make. Not sure I believe this one. Any thoughts?

1. Both my congressman and my Senator are Rethugs who were defeated - Dole and Hayes.
I'm not going to bother calling and asking, as much as I'd like to have a ticket. I will be in D.C. but I guess I'm SOL. What a stupid way to give out the tickets. I have to ask defeated asshole Republicans to attend the incoming Democratic president's inauguration?

2. Amen to that. I agree with the sheer stupidity of it.
Especially considering how hard us Dems worked to get him elected. I wouldn't lower myself, but I hate to miss such a historic event.

3. Eh, I swallowed my pride and asked my vile Repub Rep for tickets.

I figure it is about time he made himself useful beyond walking in local parades wearing that asinine sash with his title and name on it across his chest while waving to the crowd like some pathetic wannabe beauty pageant queen. And I do mean "queen." (Yeah I went there, you hypocritical, homophobic POS.)

4. Parading in a sash? Sounds like he has Democratic tendancies...rofl
Congrats on going. Can you take pics there? If so, please post them. God, I'd love to be there.

5. Don't know if I'll get tickets yet, but if I do I will most def take pics and share them!

Even if I don't get tickets I will probably go anyway (you should, too!), and just be one excited little soul adrift in the ocean of happy people. :)

And yeah, that parading around in a beauty pageant sash thing is just freaky, given who and what he is (or claims to be).

10. Check the D.C. forum from time to time to see when a DU meeting will be.
I just sucked it up and sent requests to both my Senators and to my Congressman and generically asked for tickets. I don't expect anything to happen, but we'll see. I figure, I could get better pics if I have a ticket.
I will be in D.C. from Sunday night through Wednesday.

8. Maybe I will go, and be one of the happy souls adrift.
God knows I'll be celebrating his initiation and "you-know'who's", hopefully hasty exit. Don't let the door hit him in the gluteous maximus!

11. I believe that each Senator and Representative will have about 450 tickets.
