And you all thought we wouldn't have a press conference tomorrow! Come on now! :)

Officials: Richardson to get Commerce nomination
By LIZ SIDOTI – 5 minutes ago

CHICAGO (AP) — Democratic officials say President-elect Barack Obama plans to name New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson as his choice for Commerce Secretary on Wednesday.

Richardson was Energy secretary and United Nations ambassador in the administration of President Bill Clinton. He sought the Democratic presidential nomination this year, but eventually dropped out and endorsed Obama.

He is one of the nation's most prominent Hispanic politicians, and was in the U.S. House before joining Clinton's Cabinet.

The Democratic officials said Tuesday that Obama will join Richardson at a news conference in Chicago on Wednesday. They would speak only on condition of anonymity because the announcement hasn't been made.

7. Supposedly she's up for Labor Secretary
It's an article about Mary Beth Maxwell but at the end, it mentions that Sebelius is being considered too.

2. DUers, it will be up to us to carefully watch what happens with the water supply
my main beef with Richardson during the primaries was that he seriously proposed a national water policy that included the Great Lakes sharing their water supply with other states. This is serious business. His claim that the Great Lakes were "awash in water" (when in reality the lakes are at historical lows) frightened me. Many people are predicting that the next resource wars will be over water. It's up to us to make sure that our own government does not take water from the Great Lakes for political purposes.

5. That was my main problem with him too
With his resume, I was very interested in getting to know him in the primaries. But this statement about sharing the Great Lakes water made me angry and he went from being one of the candidates I was considering to the last one I would vote for. Water is the most valuable resource in the world and is a important assets to the Great Lakes region. The lakes need to be protected and I was happy to see the states in the region pass the Great Lakes compact.

6. And yet he continues to be revered here! I don't get it.
Commerce? Are you kidding me? He'd better change his position fast. On the bright side, Obama does have ties to Illinois, a Great Lakes state, so presumably Obama's policy will not be to take Great Lakes water.

8. Huge supporter of fake free trade deals and outsourcing.
He was one of the most visible and vocal supporters of NAFTA, GATT, & WTO back in the Clinton days. Millions of American middle class jobs have been lost thanks to policies he supported. I sure hope he has done a "180".
