GOP Flummoxed...cannot implement Bush Coup due to Obamas immense Popularity
and Presidential Victory.

For a time...Rove and Crew were thinking of a coup, a way of suspending elections, and installing WBush as Commander in Chief on a permament basis allowed by the Patriot Act..

Its not outta the woods yet...if Osama attacks Bush will have an excuse to suspend the Inauguration...but Would he???

More than likely they will let Obama ride into the Oval and hope he fails...

They will help him fail...

Thats their M.O.

Then they will make a case for 2012...

But..ya never noes...they want to dominate so bad they can taste it...

2. I thought about that too during the election
the only reason they didn't try any coup against Obama was because he was too popular and the country would have rioted or a revolution would have taken place. The last thing they want is a country aware of their intentions, they wants us to be oblivious and ignorant. So- they had to sacrifice and let this one slide.

I know it sounds too conspiracy.. but I still think they wanted to do this but couldn't'.

5. Or, you know, because the Constitution exists,
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 11:20 AM by Occam Bandage
and the American people are not likely to go along with any coup of any sort. The Bush Republicans are not the first political entity to desire power, after all. One of the great things about a stable democracy is that you can be reasonably sure that, after you lose power, it's only a matter of time before you regain it fair and square--so it's really not in anybody's interest to gamble everything on a coup that's far more likely to fail than to succeed.

13. Not really.
You can sometimes sell America a bad idea, such as Iraq. Sometimes, you can't, such as Social Security privatization. You can't win 'em all, and you can't lose 'em all--but you'll win some of 'em, which is why everyone keeps playing the game. Nobody's going to declare a revolution and risk getting shut out.

26. "and the American people are not likely to go along with any coup of any sort. " Maybe not.
ONe could argue that the 2000 election was a coup. Not carried out by the military, but by the Supreme Court. They assumed authority where they may or may not have had it. They halted the recount in Florida, then later asserted that there was no time to count the votes of the citizens of Florida. The 5-4 majority opinion ran contrary to most justices' past principles and was also declared "not a precedent" (hey, it's either a loegitimate interpretation of the Constitution or it isn't.) Certainly by any consistently-applied standard, Gore won Florida and thus the presidency. This was a coup d'etat. But many Americans went along with it.

8. Yeah, I'm holding off major celebrations until Jan 20
I was surprised that we made it to the election. After warning everyone that we wouldn't, I feel like the alarmist that everyone has accused me of being. And yet, why all the continuance of govt directives in the last, why the domestic deployment, why all these obvious preparations for a coup if they didn't plan to use them?

9. Exactly the same reaction they had to Bill Clinton
Start throwing out accusations to see what sticks, in the process sowing doubt.

If the GOP controlled the congress, they would already be talking impeachment. On hate radio they will soon be seeking women willing to say they've screwed Obama.

It's what they do.

20. I still can't understand why Clinton didn't challenge Limbaugh publically.
A debate at noon on the steps of the Capital building - he, certainly, would have smashed the fat sucker but, instead, day after day, he took it on the chin.

I was amazed at the abuse Clinton took ("Day one of captivity") and he never responded. Every day Limbaugh was emboldened - even attacking Chelsea, strongly implying they murdered Vince Foster - and still no response.

I didn't "get"in then and I still don't.

Ok he would have been giving the POS tremendous publicity but not to say ANYTHING???

In the old days he might have challenged him to a dual - maybe that's what he should have done then.

29. hi-larious
First, Obama was struggling in early September, losing ground to the McCain bounce. With attention focused on the repub convention and labor day weekend and hurricane activity, wouldn't it have been the perfect time (if you believed in this nonsense, which I don't) to put the big plan in motion?

Second, am I correct in understanding that you now believe that Cheney and crew only planned to pull off a takeover of the government if it looked like McCain was going to win?

Like I said: Hi-larious.

It seems never to go out of circulation every time a Republican is in the White HOuse and election time rolls around.
