Sarah Palin a Superstar? What??
During the campaign season I was obsessively tuned into MSNBC or CNN, trying to either prepare myself for the worst or keep myself hopeful about the results I desired. As I watched each of the pundits do what they were paid to do, I went through the gamut of emotions, fear, anger, dismay, excitement, anticipation.

I was incredulous that Sarah Palin received more publicity than McCain, and that on several occasions, she was mistakenly referred to as the Presidential candidate. Palin’s experience was repeatedly questioned, but with kid gloves, because the press was prophylactically admonished, called sexist when they were not, and the true sexim glossed over (like the fact that Palin was used to woo disgruntled Hillary Clinton supporters). Many prominent Republicans abandoned the McCain campaign pretty quickly after Palin’s embarassing interviews with Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric.

I have not watched the “news” nearly as much; I want to get to the chase, know the important information about the economy, the war, Obama’s cabinet selections. The couple of times I’ve turned on MSNBC, there is some segment about Sarah Palin within minutes. She is being called a superstar. I’d like to know what they mean by that. When I hear the term superstar, I think of someone who is a high achiever, somebody who lights up the room (hence the “star”). How did Palin go from destroying the election for McCain, making a fool out of herself by showing her lack of worldliness, her lack of knowledge about the important issues that plague our country, to a “superstar”?

I would blame this on a slow news cycle following the election, but there is so much going on in the world that there is no excuse for the soap opera like reporting that is going on, especially during pre-primetime broadcasting.

Americans are ready for change, as evidenced by the landslide victory of Barack Obama. The media needs to get with the program, so to speak.

2. She's more of a joke than a superstar. The media likes her...
I think some of them cover her and her every move for comedy and others really like her. It's amazing what they choose to cover.

11. And there is little doubt with that RW shill at the helm of MTP....
we can count on Sarah Palin making her first appearance on MTP.

Mark my words....this will happen in the coming weeks/months after he gets in the anchor chair.

How else is he going to get any ratings..........

:puke:

NBC Denies Report That Gregory Will Host Meet The Press2 December 2008 10:53 AM, PST | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

NBC News late Monday denied a report that first appeared on the Huffington Post website that David Gregory had been selected to become the next moderator of Meet the Press. Former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw has been filling in as interim moderator since the death of Tim Russert last June. Meanwhile, an analysis of November sweeps data indicated Monday that, with an average of 4.5 million viewers during the month, Mtp posted its best ratings for the month in four years

24. oh, I would LOVE for it just to be a rumor.
Unfortunately, I think that it's more a matter of...negotiations are underway and they don't want to announce it yet. But I think it's a matter of time, sadly.

6. Best thing for Ds in 2012 would be for the Rs to run Palin for president.
You can't fix stupid. Would the country go for another idiot a la bush after Obama's first four years in office? My guess is that he'll have the country back on the right track by then.

Palin in 2012 would be the coup de grace for the Rs as a viable political party.

I say, keep her in the news as a front runner for their nomination. It can only help.

The media can call her whatever they want, superstar, sex object, etc. - by 12/12, she'll be known as "the loser" if she gets the R nomination.

10. And she always gets a fucking pass.....nobody else gets the
passes she does. She walked into a debate and announced she wouldn't be answering the questions and gave portions of her stump speech and that was just fine! She can't answer questions or interview with anyone outside of fox tv and she is a superstar? She publicly supported the AIP and even said "good luck" in their endeavors to secede from the United States and it couldn't be mentioned? Unbelievable!

12. Eddie the Eagle was a superstar in his day and was ultimately deemed a fraud.
Whatever his athletic shortcomings, Eddie Edwards was an Olympic-caliber salesman, from the P.T. Barnum school of persuasion, not unlike Sarah Palin.

You know what I mean, Vern?

13. Not for long. The voters in Alaska have noticed that she isn't spending anytime at work.
Like Libby Dole, she will be defeated easily for not spending enough time in the State or State Capital. 90% of success is showing up and the Wasilia Hillbilly isn't showing up.

And now, I think that Sarah Palin takes up the mantle just fine with her antics in front of the camera's eye.

16. The news covers what people are interested in
Being companies that are looking to increase the bottom line, they will go with what increases ratings and thus the profit margin.Sarah is a superstar and that is evidenced by the numerous threads about her here at DU.

18. The media crows about how high their ratings are whenever she
is on any of their shows. What they aren't and can't quantify is how many are watching because they like Palin, and how many are watching because they have to see the train wreck in real time.

My guess is that high ratings are due to the fact that people are watching, waiting for the train wreck.

20. Mary Catherine Gallagher
I'm smiling because a couple of you brought up Mary Catherine Gallagher and I put her picture on the front of my blog next to this article! I'd love to see some of you post a comment there, if you have the inkling! We can't just put our heads in the sand, thinking she will go away if we ignore her. We have to keep reminding people just how scary she is..scarier even than Mary Catherine Gallagher. Palin's Thanksgiving fiasco with the slaughtered turkeys behind her is no better than sticking one's hands in their armpits and then smelling them. Either way, it's pretty disgusting.

26. Freepers are giving her all of the credit for ol' Saxby's win in GA
Never mind the fact that Saxby got 49.8 percent of the vote on Nov. 4 when faced with RECORD Democratic turnout because of Obama's candidacy. I liked Martin but I knew on Nov. 4 that if he couldn't beat Saxby then, he wouldn't have a chance during a runoff.

In their heads, Saxby won because of Ms. Sarah and there ain't NOTHING you can do to convince them otherwise. Even going so far as to say that Saxby's win after she campaigned for him and Obama stomping for Martin was a "victory against Obama!!1" The fact that Obama WHIPPED her and her running's mates @SS during the ONLY election this year that counts means very little to the Lilliputins. :)

If she is the best they've got, then they have already lost in 2010 and 2012.
