1. They are delusional.
They certainly are faith-based rather than fact-based.

12. Laugh!!!!!
Sounds right. Before the convention, Joseph Cannon caught a shitload of flak from his fellow PUMAs for questioning the birth certificate thing. Now that the freepers have gone gaga about it, it's not surprising they do the same.

15. Talk about an exercise in natural selection....

Are they really?

The Rudy Giuliani purge was pretty massive.

Do you mean people who attempt to inject a wee bit of sanity, or ones who declare it to be outright nuts?

Because all they are going to have left are pot-stirrers and lunatics.

The pot-stirrers are subtle. They'll drop an undocumented fact into one thread, and then pick up in another thread with "I read somewhere that <insert undocumented fact>". It's a self-feeding cycle over there on this subject, and most of them can't grasp the few salient facts necessary to realize it is utter crazy talk. What's made it better are the competing mutually-exclusive alternate theories, which make it harder for the mouth-breathers to understand what's wrong with any single one of them.

25. Self-feeding cycle...
They dismiss the birth certificate Obama posted as "long since determined to be a forgery" -- AS IF some unbiased third party expert examined it and came to that conclusion. Every now and then some n00b will say "Oh really? I didn't know it actually turned out to be a forgery! WOW." And so the misinformation spreads.

28. And all they have is an unidentified anonymous member
who has admitted he is not a proffesional in identifying fraudulent documents, thus could never testify as an expert witness.

On top of that, he used a redacted copy of a scan to declare it fraudulent, never having seen the hard copy.

27. They're purging the ones who try to inject a wee bit of sanity
Edited on Thu Dec-04-08 06:11 AM by IWantAnyDem
I've seen them ban members who joined as far back as 2002 so far for simply questioning the conspiracy theories.

32. That's sad

Even on something like Terry Schiavo - I don't remember the sane ones being summarily sent packing.

They also kept around principled conservatives that objected to the Patriot Act, unwarranted electronic surveillance, and torture. There are some core principles on which even die hard wingnuts and liberals agree, and for the same reasons.

But the BC threads on FR are like reading the "legal theories" of tax resisters.

A while back, there was an intentional effort on the part of folks at Stormfront and other white supremacist sites to take over FR, and they had even provided advice on "how not to seem too over-the-top" on FR.

I think they hit the tipping point.

33. I think you've hit the nail on the thread
There are long time Stormfronters who have been members on multiple sites for years that are now exerting their power all oer the BC thing.

You can see it in the posts. There is some pretty blatant racism expressed that would never have flown even two years ago.

6. Hey, if it keeps them busy and happy
and out of trouble, what's the harm? As long as they have hope that they can somehow prove he's not eligible to be POTUS and invalidate the election, they're not fantasizing about doing him bodily harm. So I say throw them a ray of hope - that's right freepers, he's NOT ELIGIBLE - so just keep digging, and digging, and digging, and digging ....

30. They think McCain is going to be appointed president soon by the Supreme Court!
(Gee, just like the Chimp!)

Then they hope he dies quickly so that Sarah would become president (every American's dream). Someone else posts an arcane theory that when Obama is disqualified as president (any minute now) and McCain takes over, Biden will still be vice president, so the country will be run by a McCain-Biden team, which is evidently not what they want. They want the brainless airhead Sarah and nobody else will do!

It's hard to see how that site can get any crazier, but I'm willing to bet that it will.

8. reminds me of a pig pen
when you need to go in the pen and do something, and need to distract the pigs, you throw some food in the corner and all the pigs go over and snort around at the food. Then you can do whatever you had to do in there, and they leave you alone.
For the next four years, all we have to do is yell "birth certificate!" or "Fairness doctrine!" and all the Rush pigs and Hannity pigs, Mike Gallager piggies will go squealing and snorting in the corner.

20. What's interesting about that, and the other newspaper birth announcement

...is that it was dug up by a birth certificate conspiracy theorist who was looking for its absence, but had the integrity to report finding it.

26. YES - a new development - next phase, cannibalism

As tinfoil theories evolve, they tend to split into competing theories. PatGund has elsewhere posted a list of the three or four main species of "not a natural born citizen" arguments.

I have found the first evidence tonight that advocates of one theory are going to start accusing advocates of another theory of intentional disinfo:

The Kenyan birth thing is a dry hole designed to block inquiry into Hussein’s status upon returning from Indonesia.
