This ain't a movie, and to date I have never witnessed the love between another couple
quite in the way that I do when I look at my own relationship and then when I look at the Obamas.

and his whole face disappears into hers. That one (#18 I think) where he's pulling her close in, by her arm - what a yummy photo. And the one that's the magazine cover and he's whispering something in her ear, it's so sexy and steamy it probably needs some sort of parental guidance rating.

It's nice to see a first couple so openly and obviously enamored of each other. And the post-wedding photo of them crashed out on the sofa is just sweeter than sweet.

They look like they still are not only still hot for each other but that they still love each other. That would be a really nice thing to have in the White House. I wonder how long it's been since the last time? Bill Clinton has this dreamy-eyed face that I've seen in pictures. I saw it on him in one of their wedding photos - where he's looking up at her and it looks as though he's almost in worship. Haven't seen that since. And whatever there is between george and laura - man, it certainly isn't emotion on this order. I think they're tired of each other, and that the things-going-to-Hell-everywhere vibration that must permeate this particular White House are adding to that downer atmosphere. That's only serving to make everything else all the worse, like crapping on a vomit pile, I suppose. With everything now reported or suspected, for many years of more contemporary First Couples (like, say, since JFK or Nixon maybe), I really can't think of any President and First Lady who seemed genuinely to enjoy each other - except for maybe Gerry and Betty Ford. Everything else was a front of congeniality especially those many examples in which the President was cheating. So-called "president" in dubya's case. Even before that, there are many Presidents before then, from FDR to Jefferson. They were called mistresses back then.

I seriously question whether that same dynamic is in play here, as of January 20th anyway. It's not just one or two or a handful of shots. It's 100. And more. You might get maybe several of them per day. The way they look at each other when they're not hugging or kissing or hand-holding or arm-in-arm. That tells me something about Michelle as a woman, a wife, and a mother, and it tells me about her husband as a man, a husband, and a father. I once heard a saying whose message was - you can tell how much of a man a man is - by the way he treats his woman and/or his woman and his children. I see and come to understand a LOT of good things about Barack and Michelle Obama using this as a yardstick. Their daughters appear genuine, sweet, well-behaved, and well-adjusted. Somebody's been fairly vigilant as a parent here, evidently. Extra points from me. Tells you what kind of commitment to custodianship (taking care of people whom you love and care about) - and, for that matter, commitment to the concept of a commitment. Keeping your word. Honoring your promises. Remaining dedicated and sincere. These are things I just PROFOUNDLY appreciate in our new First Couple.

I just really like both Barack and Michelle as a duo AND as individuals. I'm DELIGHTED that theirs will soon officially present America's Face to the World. That's we who'll be represented when either or both of them will travel on missions in the name of the United States and all that she stands for (that WE stand for as Americans). The two of them are our surrogates to the rest of the world. The world will see them, and think us.

The rest of the world has had a very grim picture of us as Americans - for the past almost eight years, embodied by the couple who's been in charge there for that long. The vision of george and laura by now conjures up widespread negative reaction because of all the horrendous failures and misdeeds with which he's directly associated. The vision of them clouds even more when the viewer also recognizes the likelihood that nothing will be done to seek accountability or consequences of him for everything he's done, either deliberately because he's a selfish, arrogant, weasel, or inadvertently because he's incompetent. It's hurt OUR reputation as Americans, as well as that of our country in relation to the community of nations on this planet. The world has seen them, and thought us. Especially after george was not turned out of office in 2004. Many's the comment and op/ed piece and report I've read that indicated people around the world tended to forgive the outcome of 2000. But 2004 was another matter and delivers the message that voters in this country should have known, and should have fired bush, and he was not fired. So there's a lot less tolerance and forgiveness that we earned after that. Thankfully, soon, george and laura will no longer be those who presume to represent us and speak and act for us. I think there'll be a tremendous sense of relief, healing, and renewal to have them gone. And then when you compare them with who's coming in, and what they're like, everybody's going to come out looking better.

It ought to make for a reinvigoration of American morale, not unlike that which happened when the upbeat, "sunshiny" ronald reagan took over with his "Morning in America" schtick after the grim, dour "National Malaise" mood that Jimmy Carter found himself mired in by the end of his first-and-only term. Bitter-medicine approach offered by Carter versus the "spoonful of sugar" with NO medicine at all from reagan.

This time, we have a genuinely loving couple composed of a man and a woman of integrity, devotion, and a great and honorable sense of commitment. I like it. That's what we are as Americans and what we always were, even during the grim bush-2 years. The world will just get a reminder of that, after having so many reasons to forget.

That's all my community (black)is talking about. It is something that the mainstream society seldom see. The Obamas show it isn't dead and it is alive and thriving.

Great article about what Michelle Obama means to black women, written by a black journalist. Buried deep in the article, the author points out that many black women in the public eye, beginning with Dorothy Dandridge and right up through Halle Berry and Beyonce, are very light-skinned, but that Michelle is BROWN.

That's another good thing to see - a woman with dark skin (like most of the black people I know) at the center of public interest, with women of all colors admiring her grace and style, interested in what she has to say, and buying magazines with her and her family on the cover. A nice change, and it has to be good for young girls.
