Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 10:58 PM by Drunken Irishman
He might be more popular than his brother, but America is SO past the Bushes, right?

Or am I just fucking underestimating this country's stupidity? I mean, the first Bush presidency wasn't good, the second one was terrible, the third?

Disastrous!

1. Nope. But I'm sure the always-concerned vastly outnumber us...
You know, the ones who were SURE than Sarah What's-Her-Name was someone to worry about?

Obama will be tarred and feathered way before 2009.

I think that Jeb might just have a chance.....

5. Just because he's getting hammered doesn't mean Obama still isn't popular.
I think they will try to bring down anyone, but Obama has a way of not being impacted by it.

4. It's the future you see....
hard to see the future... always in motion it is - Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back

John Ellis Bush (we have to stop calling him "Jeb" because he's anything but a good ol' boy..) was a very popular governor in FL but his brother has ruined things for the family franchise for a while.

Even Bill Clinton who was very popular when he left office and still is wan't able to get Hillary elected on name reconition.

I think the American public grows tired of the same family over and over again in public office and it is hard to get elected based on "family name" these days.

Jeb however was highly intelligent, a hard worker, competent and effective even if he was a Republican. In a lot of ways he's the real scary Bush because he he's not the "in your face" drunken bully that George W. is - he'll slip his uber conservative agenda past the public and they hardly will ever notice he did it.

I think John Ellis will have to wait until 2016 at least before the people will forget some of W's screwups. I more afraid in the near term that he will run for Mel Martinez' Senate seat in 2010 when he leaves the Senate.

Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 11:07 PM by hlthe2b
enough in 04 that theft was inevitable... So, never underestimate the ability to fool sufficient Americans... I would never have guessed Bush* would have gotten the REPUG nomination, much less serve two terms... And, then there was Reagan...

Don't underestimate the cycles of stupidity... That's why we so desperately have to expose what happened under GWB*... The public has a short memory, but it can be "boostered" with enough cumulative outrage.

Rational thinking would have never allowed GWB become President- Unfortunately, there are those who would encourage a repeat of the last 8 years.

And you thought the concept behind that movie (idiots vote for an unqualified candidate simply because he had the same name as their previous elected official) was fiction!

9. Diebold will always find a way.
After the 2000 and 2004, it has been the kingmaker of the Republican party. That's why election reform should be at the top of the list of fixing what's wrong with this country so that we never have an election stolen again.

14. Chimpy wasn't the second Bush Crime Family president, he was the 6th
Every Republican president since 1952 has been part of the Bush Crime Family.

Eisenhower
Nixon
Ford
Reagan
Poppy
Chimpy

And each one has been worse than the one before, with the exception of Ford (who was merely a Nixon placeholder). Eisenhower had many redeeming qualities. Nixon even had a few. Reagan could give a decent speech, and at least act the part. And he had good taste in jelly beans. Poppy..... well he hated broccoli, and was smart enough NOT to stay in Iraq. That's about all I can say in his favor. Chimpy? I can't say one nice thing about the bastard, and since he was never even legally elected, I feel no obligation to even try.

17. IMHO, regardless of the disastrous Smirk, the Bushes should never be underestimated.
They're criminals who will stop at nothing to win. John Ellis is no Dubya, and eight years is a lifetime in politics. And don't forget that George P. is waiting in the wings. I wouldn't be surprised if he entered politics at some point. :scared:

21. I think Bush got in because Clinton did a good job
a lot of Americans felt that no one could screw up the good vibe in the country. Bush did exactly run away from Al Gore or Clinton but ran as a more "chuckle" ethical version of Clinton. People bought into it because in general many were better off and thought Bush who came off as a nice person would be just like Al Gore anyways. That and he cheated. Can Jeb win? I'm not sure republicans would vote another Bush through their primary to find out.

Just yesterday I heard some guys in a restaurant claim that in the future Bush will be seen as one of the greatest presidents ever for reorganizing the middle east. No kidding ~ I almost choked on my scrambled eggs.

Idiot Republican holdouts are looking for a new leader ~ Jeb is perfect.

political families ever. Lots of Repubs and others who voted for Shrub in 2004 same to regret their vote.

25. They STILL own most voting machines, STILL control most broadcast news, STILL have global fascists
doing their bidding around the world, and STILL have powerful Democrats who will cover their actions for them.

One terrorism event spun just exactly right will scare enough voters into checking Jeb Bush's name and they can easily get away with stealing another election.

I hope that W. has nailed the coffin of any other Bushes for President. But to be honest I dunno. In the south they have voted for 2 southerns Clinton and W. They haven't learned by now they never will. Southerns seem to like to guys you want to have a beer with. They aren't in to intelligence. Gosh, I hope we don't make that mistake again.

28. i would give him a chance in 2016.
Edited on Thu Dec-04-08 10:58 AM by marimour
For Jeb to have a chance he wold need a full 2 terms of a dem. presidency to distance himself from his brother. Then he would also need Obama to leave office relatively unpopular and a boring democratic opponent. If all that falls into place then i give him a chance. If this doesn't happen and Obama is popular when leaving then he would have to hope for a boring democratic nominee, campaign as a compassionate conservative who is willing to leave partisanship aside like Obama and then play up the his Hispanic ties. If all of this falls into place then he could would win Florida and other hispanic areas. But I think this is overall unlikely.

29. America is sick of the Bush dynasty
right now, but in 4 or 8 years the public mood can change depending upon where we are as a nation at that time.
It is entirely possible that Jeb could make his case then, although it seems impossible now.

.... as long as he keeps doing what he's doing and, as Michelle said, "dont screw it up" the Republicans could dig up Reagan and run him and they'd still lose.
