Obama proves that he does not go for "yes" men around him
Bill Richardson would not be where he is were it not for Bill Clinton. Yet, he could not wait to, first, "alert" the media that he was ready to endorse, traveled all the way to Washington, D.C. to appear on Blitzer's and later endorsed Obama. He really really wanted to be the V.P. or, at least, the Secretary of State.

Biden, on the other hand, did not endorse anyone until the primaries were over.

The only brownies that got what they wanted are Daschle and Napolitano, however, they were early on board and it was Daschle who started talking to him about running as soon as Obama arrived at the Senate, to realize that this is not what he wanted.
