I wouldn't wanna to be ya!
Thank goodness I'm not Barack Obama.....
Cause if I were, I wouldn't have even wanted the fucking job!
He did, and that is what he will have, a J.O.B.,
a massive one at that.

2 wars
No money, not even one tin dime.
A collapsing global economy
a world in turmoil
a divided populace
a bunch of fools on both sides of the aisle
a Fucked up media aiming to entertain instead of inform
with a majority willing to believe most of what the media peddles,
a base ready to kick ass at any sudden move,
and an opposition ready to kick ass, period.

Good luck President Barack Hussein Obama....
Glad that you have losta hope and intelligence,
and are one cool customer....
cause you are going to need everything available in your tool kit!

like I said, I wouldn't wanna to be ya! :patriot:

1. A lot of problems without a doubt
But Obama is the most qualified person I can imagine to deal with them. I predict that he will go down in history as one of the great presidents.

10. Amazing...maybe in the future...anyone running for president needs
to be ready to step in the day after they are elected. They can pick the cabinet later. :banghead:

11. I think many of us knew we had at best a huge clusterfuck facing us
and wanted to see our best and brightest lead the charge to restore some semblance of order. I think Obama has the highest ceiling of the options available and that's exactly why I wanted him in The Oval Office, even if he's honestly green.

I'm not saying he's our only chance but we've got to be close to the bone, so he may well be in reality.
I think we are in a place that requires nothing less than our very best and brightest and for my money that is Barack Obama and I'm glad, thankful even that he has the confidence and understanding of the gravity of the obstacles we face to surround himself with the smartest, most knowledgeable, and competent people he can find to implement his game plans.

Sure, I'd like to see a new order. In fact I believe we legitimately need a paradigm shift but I also recognize to some degree the utter fucked uppedness of our situation and know full well that before any kind of ground breaking change can happen we need a much greater level of stability and time for the general public to some degree catch up with liberal thinking again.

The President Elect is doing all that can be reasonably done at the moment and I suspect that he is laying the groundwork for better things for the American people in years to come. This shift just isn't happening overnight, the talent and gravitas simply isn't there.
We need a whole "generation" of inexperienced people to build some skills and credibility. I have little doubt that we will see some progressives and other sorts of outside the box thinkers being pipelined to take the baton from the likes of Clinton, Napolitano, Gates, Richardson, and company in future years.

The mess we're sitting in isn't a one President fix, certainly not an instant or even a one term deal. A twenty year turn around would be a minor miracle, considering how long we've been digging this monster hole.

16. respect and support
I think we can best respect and support the new president by treating him just as we would any other elected official, rather than being hyper-sensitive and trying to protect him from any criticism, or see him as a tragic and persecuted figure. He is an intelligent and competent man, at the pinnacle of his success. Should he get into any serious trouble, everyone here would rally to his defense. I am certain of that. But he has taken on the job of representing us, it is not our job to represent him. He is not running for office anymore.

People who run for president are enormously ambitious and have over-sized egos. He does not need our fawning, protectiveness, nor hero-worship. All of those insult him, they do not support him, and they make the job more difficult.

He is already under assault from the insiders, the power brokers, the corporations and the conservatives within the party. We Leftists are no threat, in fact we are potentially his most reliable and strongest support base. We support him by speaking out, not to tear him down, but for the sake of the success of the new administration, the future of the party, and the rebuilding of the country. If we all stand by cheer leading and hesitate to make any critical remarks or express displeasure when he is tempted to pander to or compromise with the powerful, that will almost certainly lead to a failed administration.

As FDR said, "if you want me to do something, force me to do it." A good politician welcomes that pressure. We are not being disloyal or tearing down the new administration when we exert pressure. We do him no favors by engaging in hero worship. That is a sign of weakness and a lack of confidence, it is not "support."

18. I'm glad that works for you. Excellent in fact and I agree with some of that....
However, I believe that these times are not like any others, and after eight years of living in an unprecendented Hell, I don't regard Obama as simply just any other elected official. The repair work that he has to do is monumental, and it applies to every inch of our government, and spreads out to the world. As for what you call hero worship, I call trust. He earned a certain amount of it from me by virtue of getting elected. Much more is expected of him by many factions about many concerns than we can remember. He may not need cheerleaders and "fans", but what he could use is some patience and reasonable understanding as he does what he can to piece the country back together again. The word "support" is easy to say, elusive to define, but quite something else to put into practice.

22. yes
That point is a good one, and I agree.

By the way, Obama is moving faster on cabinet appointments than previous presidents. Some of the Bush appointees did not take office until 9 months after the inaugaration. Cabinet appointments have always been the subject of debate and discussion. So it is not the case that people are prematurely debating cabinet appointments - and therefore not giving him a chance - but more a function of the speed with which he is moving on them.

19. Great pic--I want that guy to be my Prez right now.
Everything he says and does is more Presidential than the Blivet and has more gravitas than the Blivet. Barack Obama is already exerting his influence for the good of the nation.

Agh--yet here on DU we have a thread with hundreds of entries that starts with the OP proclaiming that he has Lost All Faith in Obama and that His Faith Has Been Shattered. Spare me.

He hasn't been sworn in. None of his appointments has been confirmed by Congress yet. He has no official powers. Yet because he has not already fulfilled some left-wing or progressive fantasy, there are people here who feel "shattered."

I really trust Barack Obama's judgment. Eventually he'll do something that will disappointment me, but right now I'm in my honeymoon phase and loving it. Stay safe, President Barack Hussein Obama.

Hekate

21. The Job numbers for November and those revised for October
add up to 1 million jobs lost in 2 months time.

We are in deep, deep shit! I don't know if even superman could pull us through this one without a few bread lines forming.

This is gonna be one hard repair job! :(
