90. I was THERE for Earl, and saw him play in high school, too.

I graduated from the law school there in 1977, and was working for a downtown firm the entire season. I drove up and down the Drag after every game, in those impromptu celebrations we had after each win.


My car? A brand new, burnt orange Buick Regal, with a white top and white leather interior!!

1977 was a very good year all the way around. Graduated. Got a job. Got a car. Got married. Took and passed the bar. Tried my first jury trial the day I was sworn in. And cheered the Horns on every weekend! It was a sweet year.

Ever go to Billy Shakespeare's on 6th, or Scholz Garten? I worked in the legislature my last year of law school, writing bills, and Scholz Garten was THE place to be for young pols back then.

103. Wow, our paths surely crossed somewhere!

My husband and I both worked at the Capitol at various times from '74 to '76. We were married in '76 during spring break of our junior year. We didn't go back the next year and then I went back in '77-78 to get a BA in political science. I had plans at one point to go to law school but fizzled out on school and started raising a family instead. Our oldest daughter was born on Earl Campbell day, as proclaimed by the legislature on March 12, 1979! :) I finally went to Texas State in 2000 to 2002 and got a master's in math education so that I could teach math at the college level.

We still go to Scholz's and my husband occasionally plays trumpet there with the "Worst Band" on Thursdays throughout the summer.

The seventies in Austin were pretty great, huh? :hi:

I think of 1975-1979 as the last time the country was truly having a good time. The Iran hostage situation, the oil costs, and the stagflation ended the decade badly, but from the time we got out of Vietnam until late 1979, the country was having a good time.

And I had the clothes to prove it! SNL on Saturday night. The cops in Austin were cool then (not any more). It was a fun, fun time. Barton Pool. Hamilton Pool. Pedernales Falls. BBQ in Elgin. The springs in San Marcos. Octoberfest in New Braunfels. Lake Austin. Hippy Hollow. Matt's El Rancho. Rosie's tamale house. Dirty's hamburgers.

It was a great place and a great time to be a young adult in America.

I visited the www.electoral-college.com site every day (just like I did during the 2004 election.) For each state, the webmaster had trend lines that predicted what the result would be if the polling trend continued. On the states that predicted a toss-up, I just kind of went with my gut. And I was born in Indiana and really wanted to see it blue so that was more wishful thinking.

So all in all, I would say that I was just lucky! :blush:

This electoral college victory was a tricky one to predict (like all others, I suppose). There were several states that could have easily gone to either camp, like Missouri and North Carolina, and then there were wildcards like Indiana and Nebraska's 2nd. Getting them all right, nationwide, is quite a feat.
