I can deal with this. I still find the format of the show to be lacking, but this is so much better than Stretch, or god forbid, Mika. They should let him keep the slot.

Now that he's taken over "Meet the Press," David Gregory won't have time for his nightly MSNBC show, "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue." MSNBC told TVNewser that David Shuster will anchor this week, and a permanent host will be named shortly.

3. I hope it happens. I've heard that Savannah Guthrie may be taking over, though.
Still, she might be better than Gregory. If she takes over 1600 and then Tweety steps down from Hardball for his political career and Shuster gets that show, it could be amazing...we might have a whole afternoon/evening of watchable MSNBC shows.

The new rule for MSNBC would go from what it was a few years ago--"Only watch weeknights between 8 and 9 ET"--to "Avoid from the morning to 4 PM ET, on weekends and on holidays...otherwise, watch your heart out." What a change that would be!

4. Where did you hear that? I could believe it, though I've never seen her fill in.
And I'm sure Mika (Who, if you read my thread in General Discussion, has written an ADVICE BOOK FOR WOMEN...named something like "Sometimes you have to take a step back", that will come out shortly. I suggest that Mika take a step back NOW when it comes to this) will also be gunning to be the new host.

10. Shuster would be fantastic in this spot. However, my gag reflexes were
severely tested when I learned that Gregory was becoming the permanent host of MTP. I mean, ferchrissakes...Karl Rove himself would have been a better pick.

13. He won't have that smirk for long
when the NBC execs realize one of their hottest franchises has lost 50% plus of it's viewership.

I can't stand Gregory's professional mien and I can't stand his physical personal demeanor either.

It's unwatchable for me now, as I'm sure it will be for many, many others.

14. buzzflash asks if that's the best nbc can do..
david gregory for the host of mtp?

<snips>

BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS
by Chad Rubel

"So David Gregory is the likely pick to ultimately succeed the late Tim Russert as host of "Meet the Press" on NBC.

Yawn.

We waited through six months -- along with the vapid questioning of Tom Brokaw in the interim -- to hear Gregory's name. We could have predicted at the time that Gregory would get the post.

Yes, other names were bandied about. I threw out the name of Keith Olbermann - that choice got a "few" responses. Gwen Ifill's name was also tossed about at the time of Russert's death.

But Russert's death seemed the opportune time to reassess the direction of the Sunday morning political network talk shows. After all, Russert and CBS' Bob Schieffer both became Sunday morning hosts in 1991. And while ABC has had slightly more turnover in the last decade, the network has had fewer hosts than NBC since 1981. In fact, NBC was rotating hosts every few years during the 1980s and early 1990s.

Does anyone really think David Gregory will do this job for 17 years?

Of the four apparent serious contenders (along with Andrea Michell, Gwen Ifill, and Chuck Todd), Gregory is by far the safest choice.

And this video of Gregory doing back up for "MC Rove" still haunts my inner eyelids."

18. 4 less times I have to deal with Gregory. So, Gregory's new gig not a total disaster.
The scary thing about Gregory hosting MTP is that he's in his mid-30s. Meaning, he could be on that show for 20-30 years.

19. He won't be if we don't watch......
which is my plan.

I was never hooked anyways, so it should be easy to act as though it doesn't exist.

They needed to bring back a panel of journalists, like they had before. That's why it was called Meet the Press. David Gregory is nothing but a lightweight. I can't stand to look at him.
