The DLC's definition of "the left": anyone who opposes corporate influence in D.C.
That's what it all really boils down to - the checks beltway whores receive from their corporate masters.

How can We The People stamp this national disease (corporate influence in politics) once and for all?

1. apparently, there is no way.
under the current system.

corporations have learned how to effectively "game" the system, and unless you wrestle that power from them by force, they have no intentions of giving it up.

24. Force is not the only way. We could actually use the ballot box. Nothing happens in this
country unless WE allow it. We are too passive with the rights that we already have. If someone took this nation by force, we'd be just as passive with them. No thanks.

28. the ballot box is one kind of force.
however, the difficulty is we don't get to elect corporations, even though they run the govt.

2. Theres only one way to begin solving this
But that requires a President with enough balls to tell the DLC to go F themselves.

And I dont see that happening considering the cabinet choices Obama has made so far.

15. The difference between DLC and prostitutes of the sex worker variety--
-is that there are things that sex workers won't do for any amount of money.

4. Maybe Obama is over-compensating
I think Barack doesn't want to become (or be seen as) an ideologically-driven Left Wing mirror image of Bush/Neocon narrow hyper-partisanship.
Hence Obama Team's stampede to "the middle".

While there may be some wisdom in this approach, but it can be overdone, and I guess that's my concern.

I'm still not going to second-guess Obama, not until he's been in office for his first 100 days.

Buy not buying their products.
And letting them know about it.

We need some chemotherapy to get rid of this crap ASAP! It might be painful now, but it's absolutely necessary if this party is to survive.

29. Obama is obviously the first successful post-DLC Third Way/New Democrat
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 08:25 AM by wyldwolf
The New Democratic movement, or Third Way, is a policy and governing philosophy. The Democrat Leadership Council is it's biggest organizational arm. Obama is obviously not a card-carrying member, but he doesn't have to be to further the New Democrat agenda as his stated and written policy proposals and governing style indicates.

Sen. Corzine once wrote about the DLC, "while I shared its founding purpose, which was to frame a successful response to President Reagan's efforts to portray Democrats as the party of "tax and spend," social engineering and failed personal responsibility, I believe that purpose has been largely accomplished..." He also credited the DLC for the "foundation of fiscal stability that Democrats have built."

Obama's apparent feelings take that route even further. In "Audacity of Hope," he credits Bill Clinton for recognizing the categories of conservative and liberal have played to Republican advantage and are inadequate to address our problems. He says Clinton's third way goes beyond splitting the difference. It taps into the pragmatic, nonideological attitude of Americans.

I have invited many people on DU to do a comparative analysis of Obama's governing and policy philosophies vs. those of the DLC. So far, no one has taken me up on it.

27. I think they are going to miss...
....the bush administration. At least then there was something legitimate to bitch, piss, moan, and cry about from beginning to end. Obama hasn't even started yet, and they're already at it. As a matter of fact, it looks like they're getting an early start to insure another just like the last. Obama can survive a right wing movement to achieve this, but I don't know if he can survive a joint effort. He's smart, and tough though. We'll see. Thanks.

12. The DLC are the guardians of capital against working people
They are the prototypical "limousine liberals", willing to bend over backwards for the wealthy yet hold open contempt for the middle and working classes. They are the "status quo" democrats that profit from war and misery.

I love it when the labels start flying from "DLC" to "neocon" to "facist" and all stops in between. Of course one can attach "sympathizer", "enabler", "apologist", etc to any of these terms to make the zing hurt even more

31. just a note...

The corporations ARE capitalism. They are not an abberation or abnormality, they are what capitalism does, seek the greatest possible profit, then look for more.

As for he New Deal, how's that loookin' today? They'll do it every time, it's their mandate.
