As a disillusioned former Dem turned Indy, I would like to lob out into the blogoshpere an appeal for the Reluctant Leaders to step up.

Al Gore and Wes Clark:

America needs you.

The Planet needs you.

And it is precisely because you are reluctant to step up and lead, that I feel very strongly that you are the only two potential presidential/vice presidential candidates that can actually stop this trainwreck.

I have to say as I skim over the bios and listen to the soundbites of the Presidential Wannabes that ALL are seriously lacking in some major capacity.

In a time of peace, or a time where the consequences of our short term actions were not so dire, I would be fine with any of the prospective Dems.

But these are not ordinary times.

Wes and Al both know this, more than anyone in the current political matrix.

I distrust all the current frontrunners, in large part because it is obvious to me that what motivates them is a lust for power and their own over-inflated egos. I am not really willing to support or vote for any of them.

That observation applies equally across both parties.

Sad but true.

As an Indy, I have no loyalty to any political party. I used to be a loyal Dem, and I was a shameless Kerry promoter in 2003-2004, but those days are over. When I look at the current state of both parties I see GOP and GOP-lite. The Dem Party I grew up with and supported for decades is no where to be seen these days.

In this time of global crisis, both geopolitical and environmental, the world needs true leaders. When I peruse the current crop of presidential prospects, none of them fits the bill except for the two that are reluctant to run.

In times of crisis, such as we are in today, the only true leaders would be the reluctant ones. For who in their right mind would want to take this shit on? It is precisely for this reason that I keep turning back to Gore and Clark and have become convinced that they really are our only hope to divert this almost inevitable catastrophe- both political and environmental- that the current leadership has created.

Sometimes it is necessary for those who would rather not lead, to lead, because in the course of human events, it is necessary. It is my strong belief that these times are not ordinary times, that big choices must be made that will impact all future generations on this planet. Gore and Clark know this, I know they know this, and it is probably why they are reluctant to step up.

But we need them to step up, and step up now.

Our futures, our children's futures, and the future of this planet depend on it.

I realize I am one lone voice in the wilderness, and at the end of the day, it probably doesn't amount to much, but as a meditation and a prayer, I am lobbing it out there.

Al & Wes : We need you.

One Saturday after dip-netting with my family in the aptly named "Fish Creek", I came home and cleaned 32 of 'em. Helped feed us for the winter.
