I may have found a Mormon connection to the "Obama is not a citizen" cult
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 12:45 AM by Hokie
One of the largest web sites devoted exclusively to the movement to push the Obama ineligibility meme is Democratic Disaster. I have been reading it the past couple of days after I saw someone post a link here on the Donofrio case. I noticed one of the frequent posters there goes by "Captain Moroni" who is "Administrator and Hero Member". This Captain Moroni gives orders to other posters as if he were a real captain. Here a few typical posts by Captain Moroni:

SEND THIS IMMEDIATELY TO TOM SMITH OUR ATTORNEY. IT IS IMPORTANT BACKGROUND INFO AS HE PREAPRES THE LEGAL SUITS.

CONTACT HIM AT xxxxx@gmail.com. Let me know when done. OK?

I have no problems with voluntyeers who keep us honest. Theiir motive are to make sure we WIN. The Obama plants are here to try to mislead us and destroy our morale and slow down the tidalwave. I delete their messages as soon as I find them.

I'm so proud of you guys. You're the MINUTEMEN WHO WILL SAVE OUR CONSTITUTION. LOCK UP AND LOAD FOR MANY BATTLES AHEAD. WE WILL TAKE BACK OUR CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC WITH THE HELP OF GOD.

But we have the greatest force in the world on our side.... God. They don't realize that which is a major hubris on their part.

I knew the term "Moroni" sounded familiar. Then I remembered that Moroni is the angel that was keeping guard on the golden plates when Joseph Smith "found" them. It turns out that "Captain Moroni" is Dr. Douglas Schell from King, NC. Schell is a Mormon missionary and appears to have been a Ron Paul supporter. He ran for governor of North Carolina in 2000. I found this info at http://ronpaul.meetup.com/94/members/4305699/

I do not know if Dr. Schell holds any position in the church. It would be interesting to know if any LDS money is behind Dr. Schell and this movement to discredit Barack Obama before he even takes office. I have no proof of that but knowing the Mormon Church's record on blacks would make one wonder.

...and I know I'm going to get toasted for this, but you find a lot of, erm, interesting things believed by Mormons all on their lonesome.

(and, no, I'm not saying that Mormons have a monopoly on crazy people, but they do have more than their share of a 'certain type' of crazy)

In any event, it is no more a "Mormon connection" than that of prominent 9/11 silent-explosive truther Steven Jones, a former professor at Bring'em Young University.

12. That doesn't mean anything
GoDaddy is a well-known (and respected) ISP, and anyone can pay an extra $19 a year or whatever it is and have their registration hidden, upon which it shows up under Domains By Proxy. You can't read too much into the WHOIS information in this case.

8. Church monies tend to go to infrastructure.
*Member* monies are different. (Mormons don't even pay their local clergy.)

Oh, and mormons had black members and clergy in the US long ago (when they were founded). If you'd like, we can have a long conversation on the topic, as it's not really a short sound-byte issue, and it has many twists and turns, beyond simple blanket statements.

And I say it's time to strip them of their tax exempt status.

10. So this could all be related to a Romney drive for Pres. in 2012.

Which fits with something I saw yesterday that said he'd already started preparing for the run.

Moroni probably realized that Ron Paul was a lost cause.

Republicans are too religious to put foward a Mormon for president(most of them don't regard it as a Christian religion).

18. King, NC?
That's sort-of Outer Wackjobia, northwest of Winston-Salem, the same great area that brought us Virginia Foxx, that uglyass wackjob congresswoman who managed to out-jeebus the even batshittier Vernon Robinson. The two of them ran THE most disgusting campaign in the entire US (so-termed by CNN) during the 2004 season. There's a whole Belt of Batshit from west of King to about the Caswell County line (where I live) where it suddenly turns blue.

This Schell durb is right in his element. It's all granola over there: nuts and flakes with fat holding it together. I'm surprised the snake-handlers over there allow Mormons around, though after a certain point, crazy is crazy and it doesn't make much difference.

Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 08:55 AM by Hokie
As you are driving north on US 52 from Winston Salem to Mt. Airy there is an exit for King Tobaccoville. I used to think it was one name until I figured out it was two towns. Only in North Carolina would they name a town "Tobaccoville". Maybe this Captain Moroni guy is actually Ernest T. Bass from Mayberry under a new name?

I think Ernest T (Howard Morris) was one of the directors on the show and some other shows like The Dick Va Dyke Show.

Calling that "a Mormon connection" seems a bit overblown.

32. Yes, we have a fair share of idiots in the Mormon Church.
Glenn Beck being the most egregious example. That said the Catholics have Hannity, O'Reilly, and Santorum and the Baptists had Jerry Falwell, and still have Fred Phelps and Larry Craig. Furthermore, Mormon conservatism is an American thing. Most of the members I met in Brazil supported Lula when he was first elected in 2002. Finally, my wife and I, and my whole family supported Obama, as well as several other church members I know. Hence to insinuate a "Mormon connection" for the whole birth certificate crap is silly. One of the idiots at the center of it happens to be a Mormon, that doesn't make it a key tenet of the faith.
