11. I don't think it does
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 03:43 PM by karynnj
Last summer, when asked on (I think) MTP, Gore spoke of not agreeing with Pickens.

I think Gore will be a factor in this even if he is not in the administration. In fact, Kerry spoke of having spoken to Gore as part of preparing to go to the talks in Poland and in setting up the hearings he wants in the SFRC. So, Gore has the ear of the President and the Kerry, who will likely be a Senate leader on this. (Neither Gore or Kerry mentioned natural gas as the solution - and their lists had a LOT in common - though they are not completely in agreement on how to get compliance.)

12. That would make me happy, too. I DO know that...
...Pickens calls for switching cars to natural gas and Gore thinks the ultimate goal is electric cars...and that we may as well do it in one step. Both support wind, solar and other alternatives and a rebuilding of the electical grid. I also know Obama is talking to both. I DO think Obama has a lot of respect for Al Gore. Pickens...who knows, since he helped fund the Swifties in 2004.(Yuck)

48. Pickens has changed his plan
He is now calling for wind power, a SMart Grid, Electric Vehicles for personal transportation and natural gas for heavy hauling - that's a reasonable interim solution.

... where wind farms would be built, or under which there are enormous natural gas reserves, and I think he also wants to buy land which houses a groundwater aquifer.

He's just planning ahead to own all the resources once we're past the oil phase ... greedy fuck that he is.

I also agree with you about the pensions...what kind of values must we have to dump the pensions of our oldest workers? That would be shameful.

Environmentally, economically and politically. If they do this right, all that "treehugger" bullshit is dead, and Democrats will be seen for generations as the party who put the country on a track to survive in to the 21st century.

42. Well, unfortunately .....
.... I fear that BECAUSE we got this photo op we WONT be seeing Gore in the Cabinet. Because if you're putting him in the cabinet, why do a pre-announcement press conference?

The only two explanations I can think of ...... 1. Obama knew about the pending arrest and this was an effort to draw attention away (although I think this is unlikely) and 2. it was a gesture toward one of the most beloved progressives to get us to shut up lol (Gore IS a progressive, right? Excuse my ignorance, I thought we were all Democrats.)

59. I have a little nitpick though, regarding Repower America's "Jobs" TV ad
There was one on last night with a guy that dropped a line that read in part "...we need to do more than lower the thermostat and put on a sweater". I'm all for the message of clean energy, but why dredge up a right-wing, 30-year-old anti-Carter talking point to do it?
