NY-Sen: King is "Preparing a Run"
My pappy used to tell me: "Son, if you're gonna go out, you may as well do it in style!" Looks like GOP Rep. Pete King is gonna do it in style:

Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) is preparing a run at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D) seat in 2010, his office confirmed Tuesday. <...>
King is one of just three GOPers in the New York congressional delegation to survive November's elections and has a good fundraising start on the race, having banked $1.2 million as of late November.

Of course, a lot depends on who Paterson chooses to fill Clinton's seat, but I'd wager that King faces extremely tough odds -- even against a "weak" Democrat. A King candidacy would also open up his Long Island House seat (old PVI: D+2.1), which is very winnable for Democrats with the right candidate.

1. It's a free country. No one wants a 'junior' senator that old. Sorry, Pete.
Learn to suck on it and like it.

anywhere in new york outside of his district. he's never faced a serious challenge before.

I hope he runs, his seat will flip.

6. He has almost no chance of winning.
He's abrasive, very LI, and not too smart. He'd get run over in a state election. I welcome his candidacy.

11. Upstate
is largely republican. They could run almost anyone, and the republicans will get out the vote. The exception was Senator Clinton in 2006; she won impressively in most counties, due to her cross-over appeal with republican women.

13. Upstate WAS largely Republican. It's now increasingly purple.
But I don't see King playing up here. A downstate politician--and people here are trained by the local Repubs to hate downstate--with very little appeal to Democrats not of his district.

15. If King thinks the other 4 boroughs don't know who the fuck he is
he's got another thing coming. King is a well known asshole and I hope he does run. He'll get his ass handed to him.
