The only Republican that can win a state-wide race is Jim Edgar, and he has declined every time they beg him to run for something.

Maybe Mark Kirk could mount a competitive campaign, but I haven't seen very many indications he's interested.

Pat Quinn and Lisa Madigan leave this scandal completely untouched.

I don't think Blago hurt all that many people besides himself.

Edgar is out of public life and there are two words that explain why: Kemper Insurance. There is no way that 11th hour deal of Edgar's will stand up to scrutiny. I would be amazed to ever see him run for office again.

It might be that the only thing saving the IL Dem party from being totally screwed is the fact that the IL GOP is actually in every bit as bad condition.

At this point if Blago appoints someone it has to be a placeholder or else the person will be tainted with Blago's corruption when they run for reelection.

Holding a special election earlier then planned really isn't a bad idea in my opinion, why wait for two whole years to hold a special election? People who want to take a seat in the house that becomes empty have to run in a special election first before joining congress.
