12. That should be a choice.

I'd pick Lee over any of those people up there listed.

I love Al Gore. I'm a Tennessee girl and he was my senator long before he was the country's VP, but, um... he's not a car expert. Just because he wants more fuel efficiency doesn't mean he knows how to build AFFORDABLE cars to get us there.

They key word here is AFFORDABLE. The reason we don't see too many hybrids from ANY car company is because Joe and Jill Blow can't afford to purchase the technology, yet.

19. I agree he steered Chrysler back from its earlier loans (bailout).........
only to have the Germans come in and wreck the company.

49. Totally agree
Lee knows the car business, and he wrote that awesome piece about Bush last year, so he's got things figured out.

I think he would be a great choice.

15. He at least knows something about the industry
but Iacocca annoyed me in 2006 when he made a TV commercial to support Mr. Amway (DeVos) to be our Governor. DeVos is just as conservative (if not more so) as Bush. If Iacocca supported DeVos, I question what he would do as car czar.

25. He certainly knows the car business, is smart,
and has presided over a successful (and profitable) bailout. I'd have no problems with Iacocca.

29. I actually think Nader could do well ... by the industry and everyone.
The man is no dummy ... and (imho!) is squeaky clean. I worked at Chevrolet (Central Office) from 1967 to 1973 when he was still a thorn in the side of Chevy. While I'm quite aware of the management issues at GM/Chevrolet, I'm also aware that there were some EXCELLENT people there, too. People who paint the management with a broad brush aren't really giving some very good people enough credit, imho.

47. Yes.
The only man who ever kept the American auto industry honest? That's precisely what we would need in such a position.

Too bad the Gore-worshipping scapegoaters in the allegedly-progessive DNC would never go for it. All self-righteous glad-handers need a pariah.

Or are the Establishment Democrats weakened enough that this could ever happen?

Yu iss what the bailot is about. it is about high finance and debtload, and orgainzational lethary and loack of vision, AL which lead at one level or another to compartaively inferior products. Nothing in this man's past suggest he know how to fix anything ig it involves more than just belly aching out loud in front of cameras.

22. If Nader were to remove his head from his ass and once again put America first
then he'd be the person I'd first think of to help shepherd real changes in the industry.

Failing that, I'd say someone who knows the business that understands the need to turn the page on the status quo.

My pick is Al Gore. He could accomplish more doing the job part time from his laptop than any of the corporate weasels Bush is likely to appoint.
