Peter King on MSNBC right now saying he's interested in NY Senate run
Not a bad choice for the Pubs. He'd play well with the white ethnics and upstate. Rudy is already on board, per King right now: "he will support me if I run."

1. That would be hilarious.
King would get destroyed.

3. We elected Al D'Amato three times
That fact alone should temper your confidence.

5. It was a much different time.
There are now 2 million more dems in the state and King is very dislikable.

Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 10:13 AM by Bleachers7
We have a majority of both state houses, the governorship, both senate seats, and 26 of 29 house seats. The "epic fail" is yours.

23. We can start with the corruption in Albany, take a glance at Eliot Spitzer who went down in flames,
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 10:27 AM by cryingshame
then there's Andrew Cuomo who might be good at Attorney General but that's cause he doesn't really have to appear in public, then Dinkins.

And the Democratic Supervisor here in East Hampton, McGintee, has put our town in debt to the tune of MILLIONS....

That's me just going back and finding the low hanging fruit.

Oh, and Hillary Clinton. Were you a fan of hers? Cause she SUCKED. A huge amount of money she brought to NY in Federal dollars went to the Military Industrial Complex. Nothing like USING a state as your presidential launch pad.

27. So you have no idea what you're talking about.
Keep looking. Democrats dominate this state. We have faithfully delivered the vote to Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Obama. We control every major office in the state. Have people made mistakes along the way? Of course, but there are almost no other states as faithfully Democratic as NY.

4. Agree with your analysis that King would be a top-tier contender but
I think he's beatable.

Speaking strictly for myself, I think against Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, King would be especially beatable.

11. True. King's a bruiser. Versus her star power and reserve.
With King making these soundings, I think fundraising is an even greater issue, and I think it favors CKS over the field.

full bore.

If CKS is appointed -- still a big 'If' -- it may discourage King from entering the race. That would be a good outcome.

Giuliani is going for the governor's job, evidently. I think Paterson will whomp him good.

10. And he might not be bad for NY, either-- he's been great for...
bringing goodies into his district. Could be better for us than Hillary was if he keeps it up.

Alas, there's the rub-- he's still a rightwing shit we don't need in the Senate.

So, our Governor is stuck in the political squeeze-- appoint a reliable liberal Democrat or someone who has a better chance to win the next election.

He's a bullshitter who likes to get his face to TV more than he likes to do actual work. All he does is rename post offices. When he's had a chance to do good, he's chosen poison over environmental standards and dismissed breast cancer victims.

fighting over the microphone would be a hoot.

But, somehow he manages to get enough goodies that enough people care about to wipe out any opposition.

He's gerrymandered the crap out of the district. He gave Democratic districts to McCarthy and Israel for Republican districts. Everybody wins. :eyes:

39. Peter King is a complete POS
And Giuliani likes to talk so much about how he's America's mayor but the citizens of NYC were more than ready to toss his sorry ass on 9/11/2001. And that was before he tried to strong arm his way into extending his tenure.

Regards
