It was widely reported what he was doing on the 5th and a meeting with Blagojevich never happened.

And Blagojevich making a congratulatory statement and then talking about Obama's successor does not equate a meeting.

So one small news site making a report is not a smoking gun. Obama never met with Blagojevich on the 5th.

I can't imagine what Obama would have to gain by lying about meeting with Blago if he did, since there would have been nothing wrong with meeting with him. So even if I did not generally trust Obama I'd be inclined to believe him on this, since lying about a meeting with a governor whose conversations he knew were being monitored would be really really stupid.

There's no evidence of any corruption on Obama's part, Fitzgerald would certainly have looked into it if he saw anything, and I can't see a problem with Obama giving Blagojevich his thoughts about who he thought should take the seat.

Rumors take off when they are widely circulated, regardless of the intent or purpose in circulating the rumor. About whether he met with Blago. Even though he did nothing wrong before yesterday, which I think is pretty clear, lying about meeting with Blago would not look good. Which is why I can't imagine he would have lied about it.
