Former PA Lt. Governor Mark Singel rather than Tweety in 2010?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Singel

Singel was also an early Obama supporter, having endorsed him early on like Bob Casey, Jr., when it apparently wasn't fashionable to do so here in PA.

Note the irony of Rendell essentially endorsing Tweety?

It seems almost an eternity ago but aside from the Willie Horton-like crap that the repukes did to him back in the '90s, the man could actually appeal across PA far better than Tweety. He is Pro-Choice, a central-PAer with a long history in PA politics back almost 30 years. He's not currently in elective office but according to wikipedia, there are rumors he might be interested again.

I think the dynamics of the state have changed enough to give him a MUCH MUCH better chance to get it this time (as anyone who lives in PA long enough knows how some candidates try try again but often eventually get it finally - like Bob Casey, Sr.).

The drawback here might be something that I saw from a DU archive regarding some of his previous lobby things:

This was when his name came up as a possible opponent vs the kook Santorum in 2006. But now that Casey has that seat, here we go again...

I am throwing out this possibility as an alternate to the continual suggestions of pulling freshman out of the House like Sestak or Murphy to run against someone like Specter who has been around a long time and has a record and a war chest.

1. ANYONE other than Tweety.
Almost tempted to say SPECTER over Tweety.

3. Singel is a good man
I dunno about Matthews, but Singel would serve us well. He is a wise and thoughtful leader.

5. Great idea! Imagine the concept of actually picking a real Dem instead of a weather-vane bloviator!

6. That's one of my biggest issues with Tweety
He chooses to be beholden to his corporate RW masters and purposely shifts his positions around to purportedly generate buzz, controversy, and obviously ratings. But all that does is confuse the audience regarding his views and that in turn causes alot of frustration because you never know what version of him you will get on any one day. If he ever had any core Democratic values, they are lost in the midst of the opportunist that he has become since leaving politics to make the big bucks. And this makes him questionable as an elected official.

Except for Keith and Rachael and people like Jack Cafferty on CNN, it's sad to see that those on the left have to continually suppress or compromise the core beliefs of the left in order to be on the air, where not one RW nutjob bloviator EVER does so and would NEVER compromise their beliefs. Even when Philly talkshow host Smerconish (who is obviously bucking for a full time gig on TV and is probably eyeing Tweety's job if Tweety DOES leave to run) would most likely return to his RW lunatic fringe roots (joining Pukecanan) despite his temporary shift to support Obama.
