The Road Not Taken...official Obama Logos that did not make the final cut
A fascinating interview with Obama's logo designer, Sol Sender, who shares the logos that didn't make the cut.

1. I love our Obama logo..
Something about it does way more than just a feast for the eyes..it goes right to the heart of the matter.

4. I think the final one worked because it already worked for Pepsi. LOL.

5. Wow. What a fascinating read!
What I like about the final design was that it:

1.) Invokes the theme of the American flag with the red, white, blue (where the red and white are as stripes)
2.) Contains an apparent sunrise suggesting the dawn of a new day (and harkens back to Raygun's "Morning in America" theme to attract Raygun Democrats)
3.) Suggests a farm field (which may have helped attract the MW states knowing that the populated and urbanized coasts would already support a Democrat)

There are people all over the city of Philadelphia who STILL have their Obama and Obama/Biden lawn signs up and proudly displayed. This is unprecedented from my 47 years here. There's someone not far from me who even created a lighted version of the logo and it sits conspicuously by the front of his house.

7. I really like the 2nd to last one
According to the interview, the last two designs were the other two finalists.

I really like this one.

But I guess they felt it was too non-traditional. I like that it breaks away from the reds and blues, however.

I like finalist #2 as well -- this was the one they said that came second to the final design -- but I think both the actual design and finalist #1 were (and are) better. Finalist #2 is cheeky, but it's not serious enough and looks more like a cellphone campaign or something.

Overall, they made the right pick. Though, like I said, I like finalist #1 a lot, I think the design actually chosen is the best one -- melds tradition with something new.

9. I agree. The only problem I see with the logo with the sky/green grass "O"
is that it looks like the Windows OS and too many people have bad experiences with Windows. I can absolutely see why it was a finalist and I can see why they went with the now-familiar logo.
