Adolfo Carrion to head the White House Office of Urban Policy

Barack Obama is expected to tap Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion to head the White House Office of Urban Policy as the new president's director of urban affairs, The Post has learned.

Carrion, 47, was considered a strong contender for several Obama administration positions, including Secretary of Housing and Urban Development - which went to New York City Housing Commissioner Shaun Donovan instead.

Initially, Carrion, a Democrat of Puerto Rican heritage, supported fellow New Yorker Hillary Clinton in the primaries. But after Clinton dropped out, he campaigned tirelessly for Obama.

Carrion today refused to confirm his appointment.

Carrion's term as Bronx beep runs out on Dec. 31, 2009. His replacement will be chosen by special election.
