4. I still lived in michigan when he ran around the state saying it was

his home state and kissing ass. He even won the primary there....then threw the whole state under the bus! My old neighbor was raving about how great mittens would be for michigan! Yeah right! I hope Jennifer kicks his butt! His father has to be turning in his grave! What a sell out!

6. Hubby was a designer (contractor) at chrysler...lost his position..

I was a ford contractor and my job went out of the country as well. We hung on as long as we could but couldn't find anything making the same salaries we were at to maintain the house and my oldest sons college tuition. He found a job here and we had to make the move. Sucks...I was home for thanksgiving though. Our family is still there...I ate enough white castles and Peking house chinese food to last me until Christmas!

7. I'm so sorry about your jobs and the whole situation with the autos

My hubby hasn't worked in almost six years, but my job is safe so far. I work for a large HR consulting firm and so far we're doing okay, of course, lots of our clients aren't and at some point it's going to affect us because they'll have to stop spending money on consulting fees, just when they probably need us the most. It really sucks all around.

Peking House is only about five minutes from us and it's my favorite place to go for Chinese. They're the best!

Are you coming back for Christmas? We should plan a DU meetup over the holidays. It would be fun.

...I believe that come February the game and rules are going to change SO drastically,
that all the current freaking out and BS is just a waster of air & so much time...

Especially now, the holidays, new year, a new leaf...let's focus on the relationships and the efforts that truly matter.

Is my Hippie showing? lol I grew up in Berkeley and now live in a no cal mtn town... totally laid back life and attitude. And I guess in a way I enjoy the distance from life that the mountain gives me. It is more of an observer position, I supose. Though our town and my own job situation sucks too!

I've in SF for the dot.com daze close to the California Cable Car line... worked downtown doing web geek stuff and such... I miss the city, although Madison, WI is a bit like a mountain town.... without the mountain.

You must be getting hammered with snow these days. That's certainly good for that economy.

12. Carly Fiorina's antic to save small business but let auto industry die is worth the humor

Carly Fiorina is literally an asshat. The auto industry is made up of millions of small businesses.

If it was Silicon Valley (and actually some parts are made there), she would be for rescuing the auto industry.

If the industry failed, among the hardest-hit communities would be Lordstown, Ohio, a village of 3,600 people about 50 miles east of Cleveland that has been home to a GM factory since 1966.

If the plant closed, Lordstown would lose up to 70 percent of its budget, a scary scenario that proponents of a multibillion dollar bailout say would be repeated across the industrial Midwest.

"If they went completely under, obviously it would financially devastate us," said Michael Chaffee, a school teacher and Lordstown's part-time mayor. "It would be catastrophic for our whole area."

Without GM and nearby parts factories, he said, Lordstown's $4.2 million budget would take about a $3 million hit that would almost certainly require layoffs of police and drastic cuts in park programs.

A study by the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor estimated that the failure of Chrysler LLC, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. would eliminate up to 3 million jobs, including those at parts suppliers and smaller businesses that rely on the automakers.

According to the Center for Automotive Research, 1.7 million U.S. jobs are at stake if even one U.S. company ceases operations -- and that does not include many indirect jobs. As manufacturing becomes more technologically advanced and efficient, the demand for labor will continue to decline even as output rises. Replacing these manufacturing jobs, not just in Michigan but across the United States, will be exceptionally difficult.
