Man Throws His Shoes At Bush In Iraq, Dragged Away By Security
BAGHDAD — His legacy forever linked to an unpopular war, President George W. Bush flew under intense security to Iraq on Sunday where he called the nearly six-year conflict hard but necessary to protect the United States and give Iraqis hope. "The war is not over," he declared.

Bush got a size-10 reminder of the intense opposition to his policies when a man threw two shoes at him _ one after another _ during a news conference with Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. "This is the end!" shouted the man, later identified as Muntadar al-Zeidi, a correspondent for Al-Baghdadia television, an Iraqi-owned station based in Cairo, Egypt.

Bush ducked both throws. Neither leader was hit.

2. Throwing Shoes is a way of showing Major Distain for somebody
In the moslem world. I remember there was an episode before
where this was pointed out, its a big 'fuck you' to the guy that gets the shoe.

3. Don't Iraqis consider the soles of your shoes or of your feet to be the ultimate insult?
I thought I read that somewhere.

5. Once bush gets anywhere near being out of his protective bubble ....
... he has to face the fact that he is the most hated man in the world.
Too bad Muntadar al-Zeidi didn't hit that little fraud.

BTW I have a friend who spent time in Morocco and told me that
the heal ofa shoe is a big insult and in some cases it means anal
rape.

6. Serious question about Secret Service......
..... this is all very funny ..... but what if it were something worse? Anyone know how much pull our Secret Service has in other countries? Of course, I guess it couldn't have been worse because any kind of weapon would not have passed security.

I'm all for folks throwing shoes at Bush, but there's another guy we all know and love who's planning a trip to Cairo early next year that I'm concerned about.

david gregory thought it was such good news.

That man who threw his shoe at bush is the symbol for all of who would like to see him go down for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

I just saw the video..it was SHOES and he's an Iraqi Reporter. bush is shown as the classic punk ducker.

21. What a coward. The draft dodger, dodging a shoe.
A real president would have caught that shoe in mid air, without missing a line in his speech.

13. Frankly, I was impressed by Bush's move
Very quick reaction to duck, stand up again, duck again. Like a batter avoiding a brushback pitch. He may have found his special purpose.

15. It wouldn't surprise me if he hasn't been trained on how to do that
Would make sense for the Secret Service to give simple training lessons to presidents on things like that.

19. Woow, the ultimate insult! Dirty smelly shoes. Take that Shrub.
Obviously, I would not like any president to be hurt physically, even Bush (though he does belong in jail). But this was a creative way to get around a lack of weapon, just hurl your shoes!
