Read Frank Rich's latest at NYT online (skim past the Illinois gov.)
I was startled by this:

It’s a sad snapshot of our century’s establishment that Rubin has been an economic adviser to Barack Obama and Gramm to John McCain. And that both captains of finance remain unapologetic, unaccountable and still at their banks, which have each lost more than 70 percent of their shareholders’ value this year and have collectively announced more than 90,000 layoffs so far.

Someone please tell me why Obama selected Robert Rubin as an adviser?

2. He's one of many, and better at the autopsy than those who weren't there.
Rubin gives public reassurance to those who don't know the history. Other advisors we like more.

3. Robert Rubin is not in charge of anything.....
although he was Clinton's advisor.

Rubin hasn't been in charge of anything in the government in 8 years....
so to dump everything on him is like the GOP blaming Clinton for 9/11.

8. So applying that logic once Bush leaves office anything that goes wrong
Edited on Sun Dec-14-08 07:31 PM by Skwmom
will not be attributable to him. The damage done by the legislation he passed and the rules he put into place won't count as long as the damage doesn't occur on his watch? Hmm..........

Defending Rubin truly is defending the indefensible.

11. Well I know that you also do believe that Clinton was responsible for
9/11.

In fact, Bush isn't to blame for anything at all, neither he nor his people....it's all Clinton's fault and all of Clinton's people's fault....and Clinton people shouldn't ever work again!

Got it!

5. That's rich. Frank Rich was instrumental in giving us GWB in 2000.
Rubin shows signs of a learning curve.

Rich is completely unapologetic.

10. He flogged the image that Gore was dishonest and souless.
He regularly cited the incorrect claim that Gore "invented" the Internet and that he and Tipper were the model for Segal's "Love Story," when neither was true.

He, like Herbert, also hammered home the image of Gore as the smart kid who sat in front of the classroom and the sighing bit.

A few years later Rich continued by basically challenging the science in Gore's film.

12. So far, I'm not finding evidence of that
Rich wrote about Gore and Eric Segal's Love Story in a flippant manner but I'm not finding any articles where Rich mentions Gore and the Internet. Now, Maureen Down most certainly, incorrectly demeaned Gore for the Internet thing but as I said, I'm not finding evidence that Mr. Rich did the same - especially in the terms you set: flogged, regularly cited, hammered...

Let's face it, those petty things weren't what ended Gore's right to the presidency. It was the SCOTUS what did it.

6. I find it mindboggling. It's like hiring "your doing a heck of a good job Brownie" for
your economic team.

Someone the other day said that you couldn't blame Clinton for what Rubin did b/c Clinton is not an economist. So it seems like the Clintonites are already formulating their excuses.
