And still after it is all supposed to be behind us, after we, as former Clinton supporters, have supported Obama enthusiastically, after spending the last 6 weeks defending Obama's choices from many of his own supporters......still we are the enemy to many here and they bash us openly.

It's tiresome, it's gotten very old, it really needs to stop.

Clinton supporters are not leading some anti-Caroline charge. In fact, many of us are all for having anther smart, accomplished woman in the senate.

It needs to stop and I hope the Admins sit up and take notice.

It's just not fair and certainly not deserved.

2. Your subject line should be a sticky.
And I find it rather fascinating how eager the not-very-well-closeted Repukes (such as Tweety) are to project their own sexist framing on to Clinton likers.

4. I find it amusing that those who oppose Caroline are automatically assumed to be Clinton supporters.
I opposed Hillary in the primary for many reasons, one of which is the same reason I now oppose Caroline.

I think in a state of millions of Democrats, someone outside the Clinton or Kennedy families can be found.

I must be reading the wrong threads.

9. You must be.
There are some crazy threads and crazy comments blaming clnton supporters for the anti-Kennedy threads. (I am personally all for another Sen Kennedy!)

10. To be fair though, Marrah_G, the anti-Kennedy threads ARE mostly being started by
...former Clinton supporters who are still upset about Caroline endorsing Obama.

You are the exception, not the rule.

Personally, I don't care whether she gets the seat or not.... I have no opinion either way. But the most vociferous ones AGAINST it are the ones "reliving the primary", not those that are FOR it.

Let's be honest here.

26. I don't think that's factual
I've seen a number of people who supported Obama in the primaries being very resolute against the "legacy" aspect of the equation and a number of people who supported Hillary either support Caroline's quest for the seat or just don't care very much at all either way.

27. Those are the rational debaters. Quite a few have been very personal in their attacks against her.
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 10:28 PM by mwei924
Those tend to come from people who are still PO'd about her Obama endorsement.

5. Thanks, Marrah. I've seen the behavior that you have mentioned and it is unfair.
It seems to have given many here a chance to relive the primaries.

7. I wholeheartedly agree.
There is one current thread in GDP in particular that seems to be nothing more than a primary rehash. Those that supported Clinton in the primaries deserve better than that. We all do.

11. Those threads are why I left DU. I haven't posted one word against Caroline kennedy,
and I won't - I consider her to be the Brain Trust of John F. Kennedy. She has her father's intelligence, that has been clear for some time. Whether or not that "qualifies" her for the New York Senate seat is for the Governor of that state to decide, but I for one wish only happiness and joy for her. Always have. Always will.

13. My very favorite Hillary primary supporters like Caroline, too.
I'm seeing lots of folks who oppose Caroline for that Senate seat. What I'm surprised about is the vitriol expressed toward her.

Another thing I'm wondering about is whether they would have opposed JFK, Jr. with as much vehemence as they do Caroline. I just don't seem to remember people complaining about the possibility of John going into politics when he was still with us.

I think Caroline would be wonderful as a Senator. I also think that since she is known to be rather shy and private, this is a great way for her to serve her state and the country. There are many people in this nation who would be great public servants but who are not comfortable with the way the media and republicans tear people to shreds. And who can blame them? I certainly don't. I don't think I could subject myself to that kind of torture.

Just look what Caroline is facing here, on DU. We're supposed to be the nice ones. Go figure.

14. I wanted to post my thoughts yesterday but things got crazy
I think that Caroline is a brilliant woman who has always been content to stay out of the limelight.

I think she was inspired by Obama and he gave her hope that good people like herself can change the future if they just try.

She doesn't need the money, never wanted the fame, I truly believe she wants to help make the world a better place and Obama inspired her, the same way he inspired many here.

28. You are so right...I liked her even more after hearing that he
inspired her. Inspired people work very hard at what they do and thats what is needed in the Senate. She does want to make the world a better place...she's certainly not in it for recognition or accolades. She has all she needs! Great comment!

I have ZERO issue with CK getting the appointment. She is a good, solid Dem, right? Who cares??

And it can really, really hurt when Hillary and those of us who voted for her and then threw our undying support behind Obama (including, ironically enough, defending him against those who voted for him in the primary and criticized us for not doing so)get verbally beaten up continuously.

Jan. 20th is going to be one of the best days of my life! And it really is a shame that those who share this sentiment with me continue to hit me over the head on a daily basis.

Anyway, thank you for your post. It is so succint and honest and a great plea for the fairness and respect we deserve.

25. people should be free to express whatever opinions they wish to
without it being perceived through this chronic, almost psychotic Obama vs Clinton lens that some have.

I don't care what people think of Caroline Kennedy. Most people's opinions of her have absolutely nothing to do with primary '08 and were formed long ago.

Should she be appointed and choose to run in '10, she'll have my full support. I think she's an intelligent and capable woman.

29. I don't have an opinion on Kennedy,
I lack your enthusiasm about Jan. 20th even though I'm really glad Obama won. I just get down when I see little hope that we will escape the stupid militarism that has dominated this country for so long. I am hopeful that habeas corpus and other rights will fare well under Obama, and I have great confidence in his intelligence and discipline. I also see signs of a commitment to preventing genocide in Africa and elsewhere. I worry, though, because I really know very little about his values. I can only hope that he is more opposed to murder than the usual commander and chief.
