Seriously, do we need 10 threads about this? Senate appts. are stupid anyways. They do not reflect democracy. Have a special election between two candidates from the party that has vacated the seat and get on with it already.

1. People fly around one issue all the time. Last weekend it was the shoes.
Before that it was blago. We largely have the attention span of the media. (Not everyone is like that, but I know it's a fault of mine).

what the latest political entertainment is by the posts on DU. ;-)

3. Paterson's duty to appoint is Constitutionally mandated.
A forum can have as many posts as it wants until the folks who own the joint say different.

Some states hold special elections. In others, the governor appointments replacements. That no only reflects democracy, as the governor is in fact an elected official, it IS democracy because she or he fulfills a Constitutional mandate.

5. It shouldn't be. Senate appts are total disasters, at least this year
Everyone gets all riled up, I just think a better alternative can be worked out.

7. Well, it shouldn't rain on a baseball Sunday afternoon either, but it
often does.

Again, Paterson was on a ticket voted by the people into office, one function and duty of which is the appointment of new Senators in the event of death or incapacitation of an existing Senator.

Politics is a rough little game. This is by no means the worst of it.

4. it's a little freaky, isn't it? I'm not helping any, I'm afraid, because
I've replied to many (and posted one but I asked for alternatives - and it died shortly thereafter... maybe I should have done...nah).

I'm surprised at the fervor over the whole thing... my own input included. Wonder what it's all about? Curious.

Gee, things must have calmed down a bit...

ETA: My apologies, I just saw that you posted this OP this AM, and it was recently kicked by another DUer. So I suppose GDP is looking more like GDCK now, huh? :)
