Caroline worked HARD for the American Ballet Theater - BREAKING MSNBC!
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 09:30 AM by MyPetRock
That clinches it! I was waiting for some hard evidence of her qualification for the NY Senate seat. Now I have it! :woohoo:

1. "Art for Art's sake," E. M. Forster asked, "I should say so, and never more
than now."

I would argue that philanthropic support for the arts is a smashingly convincing argument in favor of a Senate appointment.

Good for Caroline.

But Hillary actually FOUGHT FOR AND WON her seat. She was not awarded it on a silver platter.

Kennedy currently serves as a member of the national board of directors for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the vice-chair for the Fund for Public Schools in New York City, chief executive for the New York City Department of Education Office of Strategic Partnerships and still serves as an honorary chairman of the American Ballet Theatre.

ABT is a jewel of American arts. I know many people who have benefited from their work, including myself in a round about way. I've also seen dancing by that company that is on the very short 'astonishing' list.
And arts fundraising is not a walk in the park for anyone. I'll gladly give her credit and kudos for that.

30. Do you live anywhere near Kennedy?
And should we even believe you if you say you do?

You're repeatedly posting the same bullshit, clogging up the board, about how much you hate Kennedy. One or even two threads would have been enough - better yet, you could have posted your hatred within one of the many other anti-Kennedy threads going. You could have even posted it in a pro-Kennedy thread.

If you really live in New York - a question I asked you in a different thread that you ignored - then email Paterson and tell him how much you hate the woman. Start a petition demanding she not be appointed. Rent a billboard proclaiming that she's the anti-Christ. I really don't care. You're just becoming annoying at DU.

41. Then I go back to my original point. Too back you didn't put this much effort into defeating Saxby.
All these threads, all the time and energy, all the indignity and furor and what are you doing? You're spending your time trashing a Democrat who is looking to be appointed as senator from a different state.

You didn't throw this energy into defeating Chambliss, but you're hellbent on taking down Kennedy. Why? Neither is from your state and certainly it would be better to have Caroline Kennedy in the senate than Saxby Chambliss. There was even a greater chance at helping take down Chambliss since it was a run-off, not an appointment.

I'm going to suggest that your priorities are screwed up.

57. We're both free to state our opinions. Its my opinion that you are trying to disrupt this forum.
You have posted repeated threads denigrating Caroline Kennedy, a Democrat, when you have no stake in the result of Gov. Paterson's decision. It smacks of some sort of rehash from the Obama/Hillary wars and seems very petty.

And again, if this isn't about some sort of grudge, why didn't I see your posts about defeating Chambliss, a repub, when there was an actual race going on? If you feel such a need to interfere in another state's senate race, why is Caroline Kennedy worse than a repub?

61. I never said you were. I don't even understand what that has to do with anything.
My only bias here is that I'm sick of having to pick through a hundred personal grudge posts against Obama/Kennedy to read something that is actually important. Since you are one of the major perpetrators spamming the board with your Hate Kennedy threads, I called you out on it.

Believe me, we all understand. You want to get even with everyone on the board who didn't agree with you during the Obama/Hillary wars. You've found what you feel to be an acceptable surrogate and now you're going to town.

I'm suggesting that you take your personal vendettas offline or at least to PM. That way the rest of us aren't disrupted by your anger and resentment.

It's really none of my business since I'm not from New York. But it's none of MyPetRock's business, either, and I'm just sick of having to wade through all these anti/pro Kennedy threads when its such a non-issue.

In fact, I find the purposeful disruption of the forum by people like this to be more of an issue than who is chosen by Gov. Paterson.

The fact that you complain about Caroline being handed a Senate seat when Hillary, despite her hard work, etc., also had the same massive built-in advantage via her last name, is hilarious.

If she was "Hillary Smith," nobody would have given her the time of day, regardless of her qualifications.

32. Hillary had a husband, who had to raise himself up by his bootstraps.
Caroline has a dynasty of at least 50 decades behind her. It is patently absurd to compare the two situations in terms of privilege. Hillary was raised in a middle class family, and worked for everything she had. She also, btw, had to actually campaign for her NY Senate seat. It was not, contrary to Clinton hater revisionist history, handed to her.

Outside of Arkansas, that is.

And I just said that Hillary did work hard to win, but yes, her last name did give her an enormous advantage, just as it does with Caroline.

And Hillary's middle-class upbringing has nothing to do with the argument, and neither does Bill's working-class background.

I keep saying she did work hard, BUT her name did give her a huge advantage. Do you think Nita Lowey would have stepped aside for "Hillary Smith"?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7982881&mesg_id=7984330

The first hint that Mrs Clinton's four months of cogitation were at an end came early yesterday afternoon when Nita Lowey, the New York Congresswoman who had planned to run for the Senate, announced that she would run for re-election to the House instead. Mrs Clinton had promised that she would talk to Ms Lowey before making her intentions known. In the event, Ms Lowey called her to clear her way. A spokesman for Ms Lowey said she had told Mrs Clinton that she had decided to seek re-election to the House of Representatives in 2000 because "it was clear to her that the First Lady was running". The statement said that "she wished the First Lady well and would support her candidacy and do everything she could to help elect her to the Senate".

50 decades is 500 years. Her grandfather was a self made man.

HRC WAS given the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat and then had to beat Rick Lazio, after Guilliani dropped out.

ANYONE who gets the seat this time will be nominated.
