Once again, Caroline Kennedy causing Commotion in Freeperland:
They are trying to make fun at her, they are trying to insult her, they are trying to minimize her accomplishments but down in their little hearts they know that nominating Caroline Kennedy for the Senate from New York will put her in play in the 2016 National stage and they do not like it!!! You know that Hannity and Rush are boiling inside! Up in flames goes their pathetic mental midget Sarah Palin when compared to the regal, elegant, intelligent and dominating charisma of Caroline Kennedy. Not only we would have Obamalot, we would have the return to Camelot with Sweet Caroline as the new face of the Kennedy clan in National politics

7. I'm an Obama supporter
completely. I think there are plenty of people in New York who are much more prepared to be a US Senator than Caroline. There is real work to do there, a real process, immense legislative history. There are others more prepared because of their life's work. Caroline is certainly smart enough and most likely has the right political intentions, but she shouldn't just be handed a US Senate seat because she says she wants it. What would we be saying if Jenna Bush decided she wanted a Senate seat in 30 years, even if she spent every second of the 30 years in public service whether we agreed with the service or not.

8. I can't believe that you just compared Caroline Kennedy to Jenna Bush.

There isn't going to be an election, so the traditional method of selection is out the window. There are probably quite a number of Senators elected who are less qualified than any number of other people. Elections are essentially popularity contests. Caroline is likely as popular as any other candidate you could name.

All of a sudden, because it's not an election, everyone is so concerned with qualifications.

11. Exactly because it is not an election
Because we live in a democracy where people vote. Duh. People can vote for any dumbass they want, do all the time. Oh well. But nobody should be allowed to skirt the scrutiny of the people for an appointment based on their name. Not Jenna Bush. Not Caroline Kennedy. I have absolutely no idea what kind of person Jenna Bush will be in 30 years and neither do you. She might surprise us all. But if she never chooses to have anything to do with politics, should she just be ushered into the US Senate? No. And if people put the politics out of it, like they do with Jenna Bush, then maybe they will understand why there is some skepticism.

Jenna fails by reason of low IQ, probably inherited.

No amount of time passing will fix that.

16. True, but Jenna does have the Bush dynasty
at her back. Yes, they are evil to the core but they have great power to beguile and bamboozle a hapless public. God knows what mischief she could get up to with push like that, and it's not like we haven't seen it before.

"she shouldn't just be handed a US Senate seat because she says she wants it"

Where the hell did that come from?

She's hasn't been handed anything, and you base this on an implied assumption that if she WERE handed a senate seat, that she would not be qualified for it.

What a bunck of made up baloney.

Please understand something.....There are no "Clinton supporters". She isn't running for anything! In 5 weeks, this country will inaugurate President Obama.

Now, to the point I was making. There seem to me to be more of those who were not supporters of Hillary in the primary who are now against Caroline Kennedy as well.

Oh, and by the way.....I happen to think Caroline would be an EXCELENT appointment to fill Hillary's seat, so I'm really not sure of what I need to convince anyone.

At least back to '04. Maybe longer. Before this primary season, all three had at least some reasonable posts that were positive on progressive issues. If you search DU, there is concrete evidence of that. It was this primary season that caused them to leave the reservation.

Now I'm not sure which was a larger factor: obsession with the Clintons or hatred of Barack. But either way, they WERE democrats. Writing them off as trolls or freepers is an oversimplification and I believe is a cop-out for other Hillary supporters who were very close to going the way of the tombstoned.

There are plenty of people here who sporadically post something moderately "Democratic" - but spend 90% of their time disrupting. Some pretend to be second amendment advocates. Others cloak themselves as centrists. But they ARE disruptors and that is their only real game.

68. Lisa Murkowski was appointed to the Senate seat by her father
That was nepotism at its worst. Her father vacated the seat when he was elected Governor and appointed his daughter to the seat

David Paterson is not Caroline Kennedy's father. Nor is he a relative. Caroline Kennedy is not succeeding another member of her family who is vacating the seat -the last family member who held the seat did so over 40 years ago. There may be legitimate grounds to criticize her appointment but the circumstances of Murkowski's appointment and Kennedy's potential appointment are quite different.
