that way Gov. Paterson can appoint her replacement and put an end to speculation. Obama resigned his seat a few weeks ago...but Blago ruined the process as we all know it.

1. She hasn't been confirmed as SoS yet
I presume she will resign from the Senate as soon as she is confirmed.

3. She most likely won't resign until she is confirmed.
Unlike Obama, she does not yet have a guaranteed position.

7. he's basically the only one at this point, isn't he? Well, maybe Biden too...
Funny, I wonder if the media will be all over the confirmations as they are the announcements. Logically, one would think the official deal would be more important. Eh, but it doesn't look as pretty, does it... : )

what an oddball world we live in sometimes...

8. Not a big Sen Clinton fan - but why resign until she knows
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 03:07 PM by truedelphi

10. Why give up your job before your new contract is signed?
Although I think she will be confirmed, and confirmed easily, it is not guaranteed.

There may be technical issues around benefits as a federal employee as well - health insurance? retirement benefits? housing? office space?

I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't resign one position until the deal is done on my next position.

11. Same here. Plus who knows if special sessions will be convened before Jan 20th
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 03:34 PM by truedelphi
I sure want her views represented - and it wouldn't be possible for her replacement to be in place either. At least not until after Jan 20th (I think)

4. Maybe she's waiting for it to be official.
There were some Constitutional issues surrounding her appointment. I'm not saying those haven't or wouldn't be easily overcome... but nothing is official until it's official. You know?

6. Apparently it's normal for her to wait until she is confirmed
Biden hasn't resigned yet either, for reasons I'm not quite sure of. But I'd rather he didn't, in case there is another vote on the auto bailout (that may be why he's waiting. I think he was in DC the other day in case he needed to vote.

9. Why should she? While she is extremely likely to be confirmed, what if she weren't then she would
be out of her job as NY Senator. This isn't something new you know, others have waited until they are confirmed, too. You mention Obama, he was elected president and isn't awaiting any further confirmation and will take office on Jan. 20th. It's just common sense.

16. why? still needs to be confirmed first
Obama's cabinet is still empty, even Gates needs to be confirmed again. The ONLY thing that is for sure is that Obama and Biden will be POTUS and VPOTUS.

22. Technically Gates doesn't have to be confirmed again...
However, as a formality he will likely resign and go through the whole process again.

21. I agree with what most people are saying about her waiting
until she's confirmed. Hopefully it is just a formality and it is a speedy and quick confirmation.
