I am fucking SICK of this stupid Caroline Kennedy debate.
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 04:45 PM by Elrond Hubbard
The capacity of DUer's to argue about the stupidest shit humanly possible never ceases to amaze.

You know what? None of us have any say in who Governor Paterson picks to replace Senator Clinton. Therefore, we are merely pissing into the wind. This is just an excuse for people to relive the primary wars all over again. How about this? We let Governor Patterson pick whoever he damn well pleases and concentrate on more important issues, like, you know, our president-elect? Like...issues? Important issues? That kind of thing?

And no, I'm not trying to 'stifle dissent' or 'tell people what to do' which I'm sure some of the martyrs will cry about the moment they read this. I'm just making a suggestion. Feel free to follow it, or continue to engage in pointless arguments. Have fun.

It's a rather annoying discussion, isn't it?

23. actually, that's a pretty frighteningly accurate analysis...
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 04:49 PM by sohndrsmith
yikes. And I've even taken part... extensively.

that's really scary. The level of hostility is really out of sync, isn't it? And I jumped it with both feet, I'm embarrassed to say...

that's a pretty awkward realization. I have no idea what the intensity stems from - other than a tried and true Pro-Clinton vs. Anti-Clinton playground fight. When it gets like this, that division seems to pop up pretty consistently. Or maybe that's just what I assume...

No idea what else it is. We're usually all on the same side except for this one issue/this one topic (generally, with lots of diversions and tangents but it doesn't seem to carry the same level of ire, somehow). Am I imagining this? Perhaps...

I'm not really organized enough to do so repeatedly, though...

until she is our next NYS Senator.

6. Who the eff even cares? He could appoint a dead fish to the seat and I'd be okay with it
as long as it votes party line. In 2010, we can always put up a primary challenger to kick the dead fish out (yes, I am a NY Dem). I'd be fine with Caroline, but I'm not going to shit all over myself either.

Seems like a legit debate to me. That's what DU is here for... I think.

Isn't it?

8. Debate? This isn't a debate.
It's not fact-based. It's just people bashing each other the heads with their subjective opinions. Eventually, it gets old. It got old days ago. It's now past old, onto dead and rotting.

10. The truth is that EVERYTHING debated here is just pissing into the wind. Do you actually think
"we" have any influence on anything?

So, the debate about Clinton's replacement is on par with the usual impact "we" have.

had it not been Hillary's senate seat we're talking about.

Would all this hubbub be taking place if CK were being considered for Biden's seat?

26. I sure hope this will not continue for the next month or so before anyone can be appointed
Can we all agree that every argument that can be made, has been made - and because none of us have any say - unless Governor Patterson posts here under a user name. It is just leading to trashing a woman, who before 2008 we all would have agreed was good person.

29. The question I am tired of hearing...
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 05:20 PM by awoke_in_2003
is "Is she qualified?". To answer that question (Article 1, clause 3):
"No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen."

And from the 17th Amendment:

"When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of each State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct."

She would instantly be my favorite senator if appointed.

I like everything about her resume. Supremely educated, regal, attractive, well spoken. It would be an insult to all of us not to put Caroline Kennedy as the senator from New York.

Few, if any have anything constructive to add to the conversation. They have all sorts of reasons for Gov. Patterson not to appoint someone, but no real suggestions of who would be good.

because hardly any of them are New Yorkers and even us NY Dems have little say in who gets the seat.

(Unless we're close to TPTB in Albany, and if we were we'd have no time to post on DU anyway.)
