Okay. I went to change.gov and invited Obama to my glbt-friendly UCC church. I suggest you invite him to your worshipping congregation, be it UCC, UU, Catholic, Jewish, Pagan, or the local Humanist Society. If inviting him to a congregation is how you get a voice, let's assert ourselves. Invite Barack to church with you!

1. When someone who disagrees with you on almost everything..
..invites you over, gives you a chance and doesn't treat you like you're the enemy, I think that does go a long way.

2. Again, it's one thing to invite someone over.
It's quite another to give them a platform or a place of honor in an important public ceremony.

If Barack wants Rick over for lunch or a round of golf. Fine. No problem. They are old friends.

It's a whole different thing to make him an important part of the President's inauguration.

3. You think Warren is going use it to spew right-wing talking points?
He's just there to deliver some vanilla and bi-partisan prayer.

4. He's there to say whatever the hell he wants.
You think Obama's gonna grab the mic if he starts spewing hate?

7. Ok.. seriously, do you really think Warren is going do anything other than a boring vanilla prayer?
Rick Warren wants to be the new Billy Graham-- the Christian preacher who still gets people to like him.

6. I agree.
I don't see how spewing hatred for people who disagree with you progresses your agenda or helps that person to see things differently, but whatever. On with tantrum.

8. But letting people spew hate against those who *do* support you is good politics?
That's hard to follow.

9. He's not doing that at the inauguration though..
Obama's not inviting Warren to be the Gay and Lesbian Issues czar.

14. This man believes gay marriage is the equivalent of incest,
and choice the equivalent of the Holocaust. There's every possibility he'll get up and spew his hateful theology without even thinking about it, because it's "in the Bible". Fundies like him live in a bubble.

So, the answer to your question is "Yes".

11. Not supporting gay rights is not hate-spewing.
It's wrong, in my opinion, but I don't see it as hate-spewing. I've read more hateful remarks on this board than I've heard from Rick Warren, which is pretty sad.

12. People on this board have compared us to pedophiles and zoophiles?
How much do you really know about what Warren has said? A lot of people here seem to have bought into the corporate media misconception that he is a moderate.

He is no more a moderate than Falwell was.

5. I think we should pop the honeymoon period
If we don't like Warren, we're entitled to free speech. Let's get as many people there in the crowd to boo Warren as he is giving the invocation. If Obama valued our voices so much when we were helping him win, then he had sure better respect our voices when we don't like what he's up to.
