Donnie McClurkin or Rick Warren... What's the difference?
Why the shocked and surprised reactions? It's not like it's the first time...

1. I don't get it either. It's like somebody repeatedly being bitten by the same dog
yet being all surprised about it.

2. You would've thought Obama-supprters paid more attention to his message...
It has been consistent. Flawed, but consistent.

3. I think they got so caught up in the man's spectacularly appealing personality,
that they projected all their desires onto him.

After all, someone so wonderful must surely be a progressive, right?

4. Maybe they bought the 'most liberal' meme the right-wing MSM was selling?

5. Same damned thing
I defended Obama on the McClurkin matter. The selection of the homophobic, misogynist, anti-Semitic Rick Warren is a stain on Obama that cannot be erased with words, however beautiful.

6. oh I am not surprised at his choice. I am surprised at the virulence
and the homophobic reaction of the apologists here on DU who can't handle any sort of criticism of Obama.

9. When it was McClurkin we were told we had "faux outrage". I guess now that it's a pattern
we are allowed outrage, but now it's "overreaction".

10. So, we have to face the facts eventually. These people are bigots.

11. You know that. And I know that.
And I suspect rather most of DU knows it too.

But there are some who find it an acceptable compromise.

13. Then why do you associate yourself with bigots?
Seriously. If you find this place so hateful, why do you keep coming back?

14. I have friends here, and every day it's clearly who they are & who they are not.

I said nothing about this "place". Just some of the same bigots who are "here". You know them, surely.

16. Then stop making broad brush statements like "these people are bigots."
Because most DUers are 100% behind you and the remaining are 75% there. DU is a very very good community.

I'm sorry you took it that way.

12. The lines have been redrawn
And it's interesting to watch. There was a lot of distrust during the primary. Everyone was in for their side. There were many people attacking Obama for the sake of attacking Obama. What I've noticed here is a lot of the defenders of Obama at the time are attacking him for Warren. There are a few honest players that attacked him for both, though I think there are still Obama haters in that group. Anyway, it's interesting to watch.

18. Big difference in my opinion.
McClurkin was singing as a religious quest at a religious event for Obama. It was for a specific group of supporters that unfortunately agree with McClurkin (not that it was right).

Warren is kicking off the presidency of Obama for ALL of those who supported him. It was really was a punch in the gut, but not just to the gay community. It was a punch in the gut to all of us.

The Inaguration decision with Warren shows that Obama just doesn't get it. At least that is why I'm so sick about it. I've been a supporter since early 2007, and this is the first time I lost faith in our next President. I can't be sure, like I was, that he will always make the best decision.

19. ok i must have missed it. What's wrong with Donnie McClurkin?
Hes a great and really popular gospel artist. I love his songs. I don't know the full details but is it that he said he was formerly gay and is now straight? I think he's still gay but since I'm not him I have no right to tell him what his sexuality is and who he is attracted to. I'm bi but there are times when I am more attracted to one sex than the other and those periods have lasted for years.
