Everyone just needs to get the hell over it already
I log on tonight for the first time in a few days. All I see is post after post about Rick Warren. Like I give a shit about some prayer at the inauguration. Is that the most important thing in everyones life right now? It's certainly not in mine. I am more concerned with keeping my business going and being able to pay my employees. I am more concerned with my partner recovering from cancer and being able to pay her medical bills. If this is the worse decision that Obama makes in the next four years then I think we will be ok.

And his Preacher said God Damn America!

And he is political friends with Leftist Terrorists!

John McCain doesn't look so bad now does he?

I have marched for Gay Rights, but the prayer by a main stream religious bigot makes no more difference to me than Rev. Weights rhetoric.

Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 10:51 PM by CakeGrrl
Labeling the gays in Obama's cabinet who may not be as outraged as some of their counterparts on DU. Apparently if they aren't ready to walk out on Obama on principle, it must be because they have their cushy jobs and don't want to rock the boat. They can't seriously NOT be outraged and still be true to their principles.

and that usually you hate seeing people gripe when you have something you can't control at all. But yes, there are a few % of Gay people that don't care about what is ever done against them, and it's their right.

I have diabetes and have been in a diabetic coma. I am not freaking out about the Rick Warren thing although it does make me upset that Obama picked him for the invocation. Perhaps being near death or being around someone who is near death makes a person calmer? I am not sure.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. That sucks. But, read your post again: "Gee I am going through IMPORTANT stuff..."

Important to whom?

Want a reality check?

We have never met you; while we sympathize for whatever you are going through...we don't actually know you.

Sorry.

Welcome to reality.

Everyone's feelings matter...and YOU don't get to choose what is the "most" important.

Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 11:37 PM by Windy
There are more important things going on in the world at the moment other than a 2 min. prayer at an inauguration for a person who will work for Gay rights!!! He put the first gay women in a high appointment... and Rev. Lowrey is also speaking. He is giving the benediction.

You can't change minds unless you are willing to make a diligent effort at opening a dialog. If you want gay rights to pass via legislation or more importantly through local ballot measures, you better get the majority of the country behind you. Warren could be swayed, i think, to support at minimum, civil unions just as Wallis does.

And to equate the invitation of Warren to give a short prayer as being akin to inviting a skin head is just ridiculous! Warren is not going to lynch someone... And to equate him to Hitler? Even more ridiculous. Is he going to interr glbt citizens in prison camps and worse? And I'm sorry, but I'm getting frustrated. You cannot equate glbt civil rights issues with that of the plight of african americans when they were fighting for their rights to go to the same bathroom as whites, to vote, etc... and the Jews with the terrible legacy of the holocaust! GLBT individuals have impediments. If you don't get others who dont agree with your position on gay marriage and partner benefits to understand your side via dialog, the chances of obtaining the rights sought and owed is nil

62. wow
sanity among the insane. Thank you for your post.

And if you manage to point out some of the great points you made, you are labled a bigot who is unconcerned about the rights of the GLBT community. If you don't have the exact same position as many in here you are attacked.

I will predict right now, that BO will do more for spearheading the rights of gays and lesbians than any president in history.

See people want what they want when they want it and if they don't get what they want RIGHT NOW, then everyone can go to hell.

Many people on this board are incredibly naive about politics and think that Obama was simply going to be elected and they were going to get what they wanted immediately. It doesn't work that way.
