Just like the whole Prop 8 thing started bringing the community together to get out and start protesting again, I think this will too. Too often we look to one person or group to "save us" or give us our rights. We as a community need to take responsibility for taking our rights.
This means doing little things like:
Supporting gay friendly businesses and those who support the community, and not doing business with those who don't, (publish lists of businesses that work against the community, as well as those who do so people will have a reference)
Speaking out and coming out if you aren't already
If you see someone being harassed or bullied for their orientation, come to their aid. (I remember one incident in the early 90's when I was in Dupont Circle after work and a couple skinheads started violently attacking a gay couple, people on the street grabbed them and started beating the skinheads. People from the office buildings and businesses started running out to join in and the police had to pull the skinheads away from the group before they, (the skinheads), got killed.)
If you have a church that preaches hate in your neighborhood, watch where the parishioners park, and if they do so illegally, call the police and have them towed
These are just a few of the things that you can do.
