Obama is a genius!
He appealed to the left while running against Hillary.

He appealed to the Hillary voters while running in GE.

Now he is appealing to RW nuts as the PE.

For a guy who claimed to be new to politics, he sure knows how to play this game. :hi:

3. Perhaps he is not playing, and doesn't consider this a game.

Perhaps he will undo some of the Bush damage, and achieve real progress for this nation.
Perhaps what he said he was going to do is exactly what he will do.

Perhaps he is serious as a heart attack in moving toward positive goals in this country.

Perhaps he believes as some do that politics means public service,
and getting to a place where you can make a difference is a small part of it,
but making the difference is what it is all about.
I do believe that these are real possibilities.

Time will certainly tell the story....
I'm will give him that time.

7. Except that the Warren pick seems to be pissing off EVERYBODY.
Many of those on the left, gay rights activists in particular, are upset (and justifiably so) because of Warren's retrograde views, while many on the right are no doubt angry at Warren for breaking bread with a "baby-killer" (read: someone who supports legal abortion).

So nobody's satisfied, and Obama winds up chewing on his own loafers. Which is why, even though I found some of his Cabinet appointments questionable, I consider this Warren thing Obama's first major misstep.

9. So the gay activists are angry with Warren.
And the far right is angry with Warren.

Sucks to be Warren.

How is that a mis-step for Obama, to so generously reach out to an opponant and cut his knees out from under him?

11. Well, a lot of progressives are angry at Obama now over this.
The hundreds of threads on the subject at DU will attest to that. Call it guilt by association, or whatever you want, but there's no reason for Obama to dirty himself by (seemingly) promoting Warren in this way.

And furthermore, this won't make the right any less anti-Obama. The man could pull the loaves-and-fishes trick, turn water into wine, and all they'd say is that that proves he's the Antichrist.

8. Amazing - he pulls in those who most strongly oppose him at every turn.
The left OPPOSED Obama as a centrist - he was even called DLC by many of us. In response, he strengthened his appeal to the left, and the other progressive candidates were shut out.

At the end of the primaries, the Hillary people opposed him - you know, the DLC types who he was once accused of being. In response, he strengtheded his appeal to the the right of the party, gaining enough support to defeat the republican candidate.

Now, the repukes and media attack this socialist, godless maybe-muslim president-elect. In response, he strengthens his appeal to the other half of the country, so that once in office he can actually get shit done.

That's not genius. It's common sense.
