I watched the Anne Curry interview with Rick Warren tonight
and it couldn't have been anymore clear what he is trying to do. He's trying to pass himself off as the new "kinder, gentler, hipper" version of Jerry Falwell and replace falwell's empire with his own self serving need for fame and fortune. He's nothing but another fundie creep that couldn't be more transparent in his lust for fame, notoriety and money.

Obama really screwed up giving this fucktard a platform at the inauguration.

4. I know this type of modern conservative evangelical. They still serve up an iron doctrine but
it's draped in velvet.

For example, many will say they have no problem with gays coming to their church, but it is with an expectation of a change in orientation. And if you say "You only want them to come here so that you can change them!" they flutter their eyelashes and say "Not at all. We can't change them. Only God can."

But the underlying point is that there is still a desire to see change, regardless of the semantics involved. :eyes:

6. I'll bet there was a huge fight for access between ....
warren and the other up and coming creepy bigot fundie, joel osteen. I figured fundie rightwingers would prefer o'steen since his wife was a hot blonde bimbo. You know freepers have a real hard on for xtian blonde nitwits as witnessed by the FUX news network.

8. Rick Warren is way worse then Osteen
Osteen thinks gay marriage is a sin but almost seems embarrassed to have to talk about it. He seems to waver a bit, maybe he can be changed. http://lastrow.wordpress.com/2007/08/16/joel-osteen-wavers-his-brother-in-law-doesnt/

Warren, forget it!

9. Thanks for the link. I was curious to know...
if these two were in a fight for the new leadership of the xtian right.

James Dobson and Pastor Haggee are getting older and both look like they're one plate of a fried chicken church supper away from the big one. Scalia too. All three look like they could keel over any minute from acute cardiac arrest.

12. Osteen seems uncomfortable with politics
The way you are brought up to believe the bible is the ultimate truth and that gays are sinful...I guess that is why he believes in that crap. His message has always been positive, much more so then Warren's but he still thinks gays are sinful and gay marriage is wrong. And he makes money by selling a positive message and yet ultimately does not preach one, its deceiving.

bit of evangelical flavoring.

19. Yeah. He's basically a motivational speaker. He admits that he avoids
political and social issues, because they're divisive. I think he's onto something.

24. And his approach turns off the more conservative evangelicals I know. Not just the
lack of speaking out on the social stuff, but the "Jesus wants you to be fabulously wealthy" schtick sticks in their craw. And I don't blame them because I don't think that quite jives with my idea of Christianity either. (Helping the least of these, giving everything you have away, etc etc.)

way worse! And at least Osteen says he's 'for people'. Even though I would never watch him (did it once to get the gist of him), I appreciate his words on the subject.

33. I heart Joe Olsteen!!!!!!!!
Edited on Sat Dec-20-08 03:22 AM by marimour
He does what all preachers should do right about now is to keep their politics separate from their church. I loved how I didn't have to hear thinly veiled McCain stump speeches passed off as sermons from him during the primaries like I heard from others.

10. BINGO!

That's what a number of people have tried to explain, but it never gets through the howling and shrieking.

Rick Warren wants to be the new National Preacher, and now he will be. Jan. 20 will be his victory lap.

It's a rough patch, I know, but I really think we're all on the road to better things... eventually. It's just that "eventually" seems to last forever.

Take care and good wishes.

17. i watched it and you're right, as an interview he's fairly terrible and the camera
isn't doing him any favors, Curry didn't seem to let him off the hook so that was good. Anyhow if i was a church goer i would not feel the least bit inspired by him.

the guy was on the verge of going big, and this sends him into the stratosphere of Evangelical politics!

31. Not necessarily
This has shined the light on Rick Warren's bigotry. It also diminishes his popularity with evangelicals who hate Obama, which is most of them. Still a horrible decision on Obama's part, IMO, but there is a silver lining.

well I guess either way, they'll get their bigot leader, even if it's not him, huh? anyhow, you get known for the company you keep - I don't like our pres. being "friends" with someone that has said all the hateful things he's said - and that was JUST this week.
