Kerry Kennedy prayed for Sirhan Sirhan
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 02:02 AM by Clio the Leo
The things you learn watching Faux News.

So Kerry Kennedy(Bobby's daughter, Caroline's cousin, Andrew Cuomo's ex wife) is on Geraldo to talk about her new book. Geraldo relates a story that, as a young child, Kerry learned of her father's assasination as it was broadcast (the news report of it) on television while she was watching a cartoon.

No doubt familiar with the events surrounding Oswald's death, her first reaction was to pray ..... not only for her father and her family, but also for her father's assassin, Sirhan Sirhan and HIS family.

I went to my room and I buried my head in my pillow and I prayed to God to take care of him ... I prayed for my father primarily but I prayed that nothing would happen to him (Sirhan.) I didn't want his family to go through what our family was going to have to go through. I thought, he must have a mother and a father and he might have children and I didn't want them to be without their father or without their child.

Regardless of what you think of Christianity, you have to be moved by that. I had a cousin who was murdered and I know how hard it is to merely pray to not feel vengence, must less to pray for compassion.

I have heard stories simmilar to this before when the Kennedys talk about their opposition to the death penalty.

Dynasty or no dynasty .... if we had more people in the world who thought this way, who could express that sense of love no situation, it would be a much better place.

1. If you're a good Christian, you pray for even the sinners.
Wasn't it Pope John Paul II who went and prayed with the man who shot him?

To me, it's easy to hate someone who truly brings you pain. It's very difficult to forgive and find peace with the person who brings you pain.

4. And one of the more moving stories from the civil rights movement...
..... has been to hear about how the students, as they were training for some march or sit in, would practice feeling love those attacking them ... they wouldn't just pray to not feel rage, but that God would help them to love their attackers ..... WHILE they were being hit and cursed at.

Amazing.

3. I am moved by that....wow...
Turning the other cheek is never easy.

Funny story: I am the middle of three girls. My father came from a really big family of 13 and they loved each other like crazy. I loved my sisters but we used to fight like mad sometimes. I can remember my father lining us up and talking to us about loving each other as we stood there with tears running down our faces and hair all disheveled from some rumble we'd had. After he gave us his talk he would make us hug and give each other a kiss on the cheek. Ewwwwwww! That was the worse! Here I am all pissed off that my sister snatched my barbie out of my hand or whatever the issue was and you want me to kiss her? Now??????

But that was the reason there family was so strong. My mother used to say they were a cult..they would have a big argument and five minutes later it was like it never happened. I never met my grandparents on my dad's side but they instilled some strong beliefs in them. No matter what was going on my father would talk about leaning on God for understanding.

Caring for each other, being each others "keeper" will go a long way in healing the world.

(after the kiss, I would tell my sister that I put spit on her cheek...took me a bit longer to cool off after a fight. hee hee)

5. I have heard.....
.... that a good thing to do when you have two children and they are fighting, to make them sit nose to nose until eventually they get over it and forget why they were fighting.

It seems like a good idea ..... I dont have children, so I dont know for certain ..... but I CAN tell you it doesn't work with cats! :)

6. That's a Great Story
Learning the proper way to get into and out of fights is a crucial skill. I think I'm envious.

8. It's part of being a Catholic...to forgive those who have trespassed against you.
It seems the other Christian sects are a bit more about fire and brimstone.

9. It's a fundamental tenant of Christianity.....
.... any Christian who fails to pursue this line of thought is living in error.

But you're right ..... too many followers of Christ are failing to hand vengence over to God.
