The RNC is trying to find their very own "Howard Dean"

Wanted: A Republican Howard Dean

By Matt Lewis

As Republicans prepare to elect a new RNC chairman, they would do well to pay attention to Howard Dean's successful tenure as DNC chairman.

In fact, I'm on record saying that the best template for the RNC to adopt is the post-2004 model, which saw Democrats go from defeated and demoralized to a motivated and excited party (it's hard to remember just how bad things looked for the Democrats after the 2004 election).

To be sure, much of Howard Dean's success was largely contingent on electing a Democratic president in 2008. He laid the foundation by revamping the infrastructure and enforcing a 50-state-strategy, but it took a charismatic figure like Barack Obama to deliver the White House to the Democrats.

In many ways, Dean's quixotic presidential primary campaign -- and tenure as DNC chairman -- laid the groundwork for an Obama victory.

Dr. Dean leaves some mighty big shoes to fill..

Any clue on who might run for DNC Chairman?

1. Dean did a great job
The republikkans had their Dean...Dr.Howard Dean

Then they became a party of religious nuts and Howard joined Us.

If Rahm Emmanuel has his way, I would guess someone along the DLC lines.

But, I'm not sure that will happen.

2. They will never find a Dean in that camp. They don't care about
a 50 state strategy because they believe in having no platform...just smear the other guy. Unless they change that mentality they will fail. People are tired of the divisive...who's the real america meme.

16. They have a platform...
It's just that sensible Americans find their platform quite scary.

5. Ron Paul wouldn't take the job but that would actually be very smart
Ron Paul is the only person in the GOP that has grasped the idea of netroots. The rest of them don't understand any form of fundraising that doesn't involve billionaires writing checks or any form of organizing that doesn't involve talk radio or fundie churches.

4. I suppose you meant RNC Chairman since Obama will be appointing the DNC Chairman
And I don't know the GOP field well enough to guess that. I was thinking maybe Huckabee might be a possibility but he's pretty busy with his TV show. Maybe Eric Cantor will get the job.

8. Yea when your party controls the White House the President controls the party
The President is, by custom, the leader of his party. The Chairman isn't formally appointed per se but the President nominates somebody and the DNC members always elect the person that the President chooses.

Also the Chairman pretty much becomes a figurehead position. The real decisions about where to spend the DNC's money are made by the White House Political Director and other advisors to the President. No matter who is made Chairman of the DNC, David Axelrod and others will likely be making most of the important decisions like Karl Rove did for Bush.

10. I hope the Dean haters here in DU won't come to your thread to say nobody needs a Howard Dean to win
I had another post on Howard Dean a few days ago and Howard Dean was attacked and his contributions downplayed mercilessly. I really cannot understand that kind of feeling for a guy to whom we owe so much.
