"...In fact, WARREN HAS SAID THAT ONLY FIVE ISSUES ARE "NON-NEGOTIABLE" - his opposition to abortion, stem-cell research, cloning, gay rights and euthanasia - which puts him firmly in the camp of the other religious hatemongers....

• Warren has been a dedicated enemy of marriage equality, equating gay rights to incest and pedophilia, and was a fervent supporter of the pro-bigotry Proposition 8. He is against civil unions for gay couples.

• He's also rabidly anti-choice, comparing abortion to the Holocaust (source).

• Just for good measure, he's said that atheists are not qualified for the presidency

• And, oh yes, he's a creationist."

If a gay fireman pulled Rick Warren out of a burning house, he'd probably say "Thanks for saving my life, but you're still going to Hell".

Bigots like him don't WANT to be cured.

We certainly have plenty of atheists in politics in the UK, including the current Foreign Secretary. And this is in a country where we *don't* have official church/state separation! Aren't religious tests for office prohibited in the American Constitution?

To say that no one changes or can be changed is going against the very idea of evolution. Are you now ready to deny evolution happens?

His church is inclusive as possible. He can go over the top but I'd rather watch him go over the top and be right as hell than listen to Warren be jovially hateful in a low key way. He's slime. He should be out jacking bicycles and selling them at the flea market.

lends the impression of someone who is in air-conditioned control, with several filters of protection between him and the real America, and little or no chance that his smug assumptions will be challenged, and all avenues of objection closed by dutiful assistants.

On pretty much all issues, this guy is about as Far Right as it gets in the socio-political spectrum in the United States.

McCain sounded kind of feeble out at the Saddleback event, even though I suspect he had not in fact been kept in a "cone of silence" backstage. I don't even know what a cone of silence IS. Has anybody ever seen one?

And then, even hearing the questions in advance, McCain still wasn't up to the task of answering them, while Obama, who likely had no idea what he would be asked, did quite well.

The take-away point for me in that wasn't just that McCain was hopelessly dense and inarticulate, since we all knew that already, but that Warren thought he could make Obama stumble on "New Testament" issues, and learned swiftly that if anything, Obama knows those texts as well (or better?) than Warren does.

So little Rick is going to have to bulk up on the basics under 4 to 8 years of Barack Obama in the White House. Obama's administration is not anything like Warren's sycophants that pack that megachurch every Sunday.

58. Warren is an opportunistic piece of shit
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 08:52 PM by ismnotwasm
And out of his biblically correct, cloven hoofed-rabbitass mind.

I just read the bible. I did, cover to cover. I've done it before, several times, but I took my time, I tried to be fair, but I read it the way someone who believed in the inerrancy of the bible would have to, every word literally true. I believe Warren supports this type of reading.

In a literal reading, It's a very long story about a vicious psychotic God who after torturing his chosen people, letting Satan fuck with them,(Gotta love the book of Job)repeatedly committing wholesale genocide as well as other atrocities-- making up rules as he goes along--- thinks having his Son slaughtered makes a dandy encore. His Son makes repeated warnings of a deadly place of eternal torment--eternal means forever doesn't it? For those with the wrong attitude. And the whole thing ends up with a acid trip end of the world type scene complete with seals, special numbers, harlots, trumpets, angels etc. With again the torture and suffering of uncountable human beings.

I found no beauty (I have before)I found no truth (I have before)reading it in this way, only hate and torment, confusion and insanity. And a bunch of meaningless fucked up 'rules' (Hey did you know women aren't supposed to teach?)

So my conclusion is anyone who thinks the bible is inerrant, and then proceeds to use it as a moral guide is a)out of their rabbitass mind b)An opportunistic piece of shit c)both

Since my choice is c, I think that disgusting motherfucker has no business near the politics of the US. I'd cross the street to avoid him on a dark night for sure.

59. There is an old saying that goes something like this....
"Meet people where they are, and take them where you want them to go." I likely slaughtered the original comment, but you get my drift.

Warren has said he's "fine" with the idea of Civil Unions. Imagine a National recognition of same sex unions for a moment. Might someone like Warren help us get there? I understand the arguments for full equality and I support them. But, at times a step forward is better than digging in our heels.

That said ...

I think Warren should apologize for his offensive/ignorant remarks likening same sex marriage to inc*st etc. I feel that if he did so, he'd have the opportunity to "teach" and reach those who make the same absurd comparisons. Not sure that will happen, but it certainly should if he's going to continue in the role Obama had in mind for him.
