It wasn't necessary, the fighting, and I, for one, will miss her threads.

She is still a member, however.

We are going to wind up with less friends if you keep it up. Just because Melissa met the guy and signed a CD for him does not make her a convert. Just because Barack lets the fool say a prayer does not make him a convert. God dammit, Barack has a very progressive Gay rights stance. No it's not everything we want, but it's better than we've ever had. Now some of you fools need to back the hell off.

I'm gay and proud and have been very open about that for more than 20 years. I've fought family and friends for recognition for gay rights for many years. So I don't want to hear any fool accuse me of being a log cabiner or any other such crap. It wont work.

they don't represent GLBT DU or any other constituency on DU.

I am very pro-marriage equality and gay rights and yet find myself STILL getting somehow entangled in brawl after brawl with a small number of posters here on DU who say that they are gay. And these same posters brawling with me show up in EVERY DAMNED thread with their trite, idiotic comments and brawl with everyone else so I know it's not even personal. They probably aren't even reading what they're responding to before responding.

It got so bad yesterday that I had to do the same thing you just did, remind myself that these hateful, ignorant loudmouthed few (and it really is only about 6 or 7 of them) are NOT indicative of the gay community or of genuine GLBT activists who are much smarter, nimble-minded and actually able to discern who their friends vs. their enemies are. It's easy to put these 6 @ssholes on DU out of your head when you look at the gay people in your lives who really do need your support to get the rights that they deserve.

They are a fringe element who want to divide people by race, gender and sexual orientation.

A year ago I wouldn't have believed it, but after reading the attacks on MLK, Obama, Rev. Lowery, Elizabeth Alexander (the poet chosen to read at the inauguration and is a black woman) and now Melissa Etheridge, I see now that these anything is possible. This will probably be the only thread today I read re: Warren because I am so over and done with him there is no word for how I feel about this issue now.
