Does Obama have an openly gay person on his cabinet?

If he doesn't I personally think he should. Or at least someone gay who he can get their viewpoint from on most issues. Maybe that is something the gay and lesbian community should really push for in all administrations?

I think it's asking too much to expect that of a Cabinet member. We want the best, regardless of whether they choose to discuss their sexuality.

27. Napolitano has specifically said that she is not gay. She may be. She may not be, but

the only "evidence" as far as I can tell is that she has short hair and wears trousers a lot. I don't think one should leap to conclusions, one way ot another, from appearance alone.

If she is closeted, I can understand. It's hard enough for women in politics and almost impossible for gays. The combination would be very rough, especially in non-coastal states. If someone is not oppressing gays, I think he or she has a right to have what they say on the subject respected. People's sex lives (or lack thereof) are personal and should be their own business.

28. I hate to say it, but the rumor of possible gay hires or appointments by Obama seemed to float

when the flap about Warren started. But, on the general principle: Much as Obama said that his hires would look like America, that cannot be literal. We have women and men. Whites and African Americans. Hispanics. All kinds of Asians. And, in each of those groups, gays and heteros. Every single group has its own perspective and wants to be represented and to take pride in having one of its own in a high profile place.

I hope, though, that Obama does appoint an uncloseted gay. If not, I think he needs to consult bc he sometimes seems tone deaf on this subject. And I hope members of the GLBT community never stop emailing him with constructive suggestions.
