The thing that made STONEWALL important, from my imperfect understanding of GLBT history, is that that was the first time that the persecuted FOUGHT BACK. They'd been beaten and harassed for years, and sucked it up. That time, they'd had enough.

The FIGHTING BACK (by means of a SILENT KICK, not any violence of any sort) bit was the important part--after all, how is anyone going to have a "riot" on the internet? What...are we going to throw parenthenses at each other? Beat each other to a pulp with EXCLAMATION POINTS???

The point was to show up and PROTEST. With a kick. But hey, seventy people weighed in, and that was too many, I guess...can't have a revolution, is that it? Everyone's supposed to shut up, and go along, and get along. How dare we act like Americans, and speak our minds? Bow down...OBEY!

And the national security argument? That was unadulturated bullshit. It's a shameful chapter, all right....the progressive credentials of this website are besmirched by that lock. It needs to be UNDONE.
