Obama's Hawaiian Holiday: Spam Sushi, Golf, Offers To Buy Beer For Reporter
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 02:34 AM by RamboLiberal
The pool report on Obama's holiday vacation in Hawaii today has some amusing accounts of his spam sushi lunch and a confession that he's not very good at golf:

President-elect Barack Obama finished his afternoon golf game about 5:30 p.m. local time, five hours after arriving at Olomana Golf Links.

There is no word on Mr. Obama's score or any of the others in the foursome.

But half-way through his 18 holes, as he stopped by the snack bar, he unexpectedly bumped into the pool sitting outside the club house. Asked how his game was going, he smiled and conceded: "I'm not that good."

He chatted for a moment, telling the pool to have a beer and put it on his tab. No one took him up on the offer.

As for Mr. Obama and his group, a snack bar clerk later confirmed that he purchased two hot dogs, two spam musubi, two passion orange sodas, one Powerade and one coke, for a tab of $17.75. The spam musubi, a local luncheon specialty, consists of spam and a fried egg on a bed of rice, all held together with a dried seaweed wrap. (Visualize a very big sushi role, slightly larger than a Hostess Ho Ho.)

You know the press pool have gotta be loving Hawaii a lot more than Crawford. I bet the press pool are happy campers that in a few more weeks there will be no more sweltering in Crawford. Whether Chicago, Hawaii, or other vacation locations going to be a lot more fun for the press corp to cover this president.

Spam sushi?????? I'd sure be dipping that one in the soy and slathering on the wasabi.

2. No. You either eat spam or suchi. I lived in GUM, and they both rule.
I hated spam, but suchi ruled, "if" it was fresh.

4. Spam's largest market are polynesian cultures
During WWII they were deprived of a lot of meat that was sent to the navy. They developed a wide variety of recipes using Spam and continue to this day to be Hormel's major markets for Spam.

Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 03:06 AM by katusha

Spam musubi is a very popular snack and luncheon food in Hawaii made in the tradition of Japanese onigiri, also known as a musubi. A Spam musubi is composed of a block of salted (not vinegared; that would be sushi) rice with a slice of Spam (cooked or uncooked) on top, and typically nori (dried seaweed) surrounding it to keep it in shape.

He chatted for a moment, telling the pool to have a beer and put it on his tab. No one took him up on the offer.

After all, the press is concerned with appearances of impropriety and stuff like that

It is disgraceful trying to cozy up to reporters by buying them a beer. Obama should know that it

.....

takes a BBQ!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp0iHOk0mEQ

BTW, has Obama even got a ranch?

10. Spam!!! Yuck!!!
My husband and I watched something on the history channel about foods like Spam and we both asked each other what it would take to eat spam. I said if it was like the last thing on earth maybe. He said if he was paid to eat it. Its...so gross. I know they like it in Hawaii but still.
