Maybe the Gay Community should start protesting Red Lobsters around the country?
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 03:17 AM by Quixote1818
After all, eating shellfish is right up there with gay marriage. Lobbying for the execution of people who commit adultery would be good to.

I think something creative like this could really move the debate to what lying sacks of shit people like Warren really are. It would perhaps start to educate people on how these ass holes pick and chose what they want to focus on in the Bible.

I would suggest they mention that they really don't have a problem with Red Lobster and Long John Silver and every other restaurant and Grocery store that serves shellfish or pork, but that they were just trying to make a point.

Perhaps a national day for gays and lesbians to protest establishments that east shellfish, and do it every year to where it becomes a huge deal. If not shellfish, I am sure there is something humorous and evil in the Bible they can find to protest.

1. Wouldn't it have more of an impact that there be a movement
to make divorces illegal? I mean, if, as the religious claim, marriage is a holy union between a man and a woman, isn't divorce against that union? Don't most churches still oppose divorce? If so, why do the religious not oppose divorce and the state laws that allow them?

Hit the hypocrites where it counts, hit them personally - if they want their sacred marriages honored and respected then take away the laws that allow that they be severed. I mean, I don't know of any religious ritual that severe the sacred vow. Catholics annul them, but that is a church "legal" finding that the marriage never happened, so to speak (which really fucks up the kids of the non-existent unions).

They want their holy unions then by god, let them keep them, by god. Outlaw divorces.

But as far as marriages performed by civil servants such as judges, mayors and other elected officials, if they are state sanctioned unions then there is no excuse to not afford couples of the same sex the legal status they provide.

4. Whatever it is is should be kind of funny to catch peoples attention
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 04:02 AM by Quixote1818
I probably shouldn't have suggested protesting Red Lobster as it could be misconstrued but there must be dozens of things the Bible says are an abomination that will make people laugh.

As far as gay marriage is concerned under the law. It clearly should be legal regardless of how people vote. If you look at the history of marriage and how it is actually viewed in most countries it has little to do with religion and the Separation laws are crystal clear on something like this anyway. The courts should strike down Prop. 8.

5. So you don't think they would find the humor in having their divorces
taken from them?

Hell, they are the ones claiming how sacred the union, let them keep them sacred and take away the right to get a divorce.

What you have to do is to stop recognizing religious marriages - all state sanctioned and authorized marriages have to be performed by judges, mayors, etc, and only those who have been married in a state sanctioned ceremony can apply for a divorce. Make the religious get their "sacred" blessing of their union in addition to the state sanctioned union. They can have a judge and a preacher.

I find it comical that they think the union is sacred yet have no qualms with divorce even though divorce is not approved in the bible, don't you?

18. I didn't say that. I don't know what would be the best thing to protest
divorce might be good. I am just trying to think where G/L would go to protest people getting a divorce that would catch media attention. Perhaps the courthouse? Maybe they could protest ANY institution that is an abomination in the Bible? They would be able to protest on every block of the country.

8. There you go!
The hypocricy demonstrated by many on the right .... who oppose gay marriage but turn blind eye to adultery .... is simply astonishing. It's my biggest problem with the sanctity of marriage folks

And as an aside, I appreciate the humor of the OP, but the shellfish thing doesn't work. Adultery, homosexuality, fornication (my personal favorite) and SO MANY OTHER THINGS are forbidden in the New Testament ... but dietary restrictions are not. ;)

15. Divorce is utterly condemned by the man Jesus in the NT
He uses words so strong that I hesitate to quote them, but those who remarry are called whores and whoremongers, by him, not me.
So the divorce rate among 'christians' is a very major concern. The law must be changed to reflect God's will. No more divorce. And that's just a start.
The hypocrisy will not stand. And it is not funny. Eating a pork and cheese sandwich while demaning I remain kosher is hypocrisy. Jesus hated hypocrisy more than divorce.

Christianists don't follow the Christ, and therefore they are without merit. Rejecting those laws about divorce and the rest clearly demonstrates that the religion is just a prop in the show, not a thing that is respected or followed. It is a weapon for control of others. And nothing more. If the christianists don't respect and follow their own laws, they have zero right to ask others to do so. Zero. The least of these.
Jesus said the church will be apostate, and a generation of vipers. And so it is. And so it is.

13. Please clarify...
"as the religious claim, marriage is a holy union between a man and a woman"

Not ALL of "the religious" claim that. There are many of us, actually, who do not.

It is now becoming more and more frequent that, in order to express disgust with the freakoid Rick Warren, the 'religious left'...yes, we do exist... is being shit on along with him.

the religious that oppose same sex marriage is what I meant. The members of those churches that do not allow same sex marriage and that have members that vote for amendments to their state constitutions and statutes which provide that marriage means "a union between a man and a woman".

all for a ballot initiative to outlaw divorce; if marriage is such a "sacred" institution, let's see how the straight people like the government legislating their lives

10. I think I may protest on behalf of Snow Angels
During a football game yesterday, one of my favorite team's players fell down in the snow and made a snow angel after scoring a touchdown.

It was called "unsportsmanlike conduct" and penalized.

So let's get this straight...

falling down on one knee in prayer after a touchdown is OK, but falling down to make a snow angel is not.

Snow Angel prejudice!!!!

11. You can't argue with the religious
It's as simple as that. No protest will help. There's nothing you can do. I resign myself daily to the fact that more people in America believe in angels than believe in evolution. We have huge swathes of this country where religion and ignorance go hand in hand. It doesn't have to be that way. I know many Christians who are also modern in their thinking, who understand science, who are tolerant of differences and who keep their religious beliefs in the realm of their own, personal lives which is where it belongs IMHO.

12. Isn't illegal for a man to ejaculate outside his wife's vagina according to the Bible?
I read something about some dude named Onan... I guess we should make "finishing" somewhere else a punishable crime for straight men!

19. I recommend that you leave bible interpretation to those who understand it
Your OP does not move the debate forward. Its an innacurate interpretation, and just causes more anger and confusion on all sides of the issue.

22. Let us not forget the sacrilege of the humble cheeseburger
Exodus 23:19 The first of the first fruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

Exodus 34:26 The first of the first fruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

Deuteronomy 14:21 Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

Apparently cooking meat with milk products is a really bad idea!

Let's not even get started on Lasagna or pizza or cheesesteak...
