Why a prayer at all? Why not have someone read from the "Charters of Freedom?"

Maybe the Preamble to the Constitution?

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish Justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

I think this would be representative of all Americans, and not just the followers of a hate-filled bigot...

However, culturally speaking, this has been a christian nation, and as such there's usually christian elements in the inauguration.

2. I agree 100%, a real message to all the people who have

been shafted by **** and company. This would be a reminder that we are going back to the real purpose of our government. Keep religion out of it. WE are all Americans, we are not all religious.
Pray at the end of the inauguration ceremonies if you must but leave the start for wise words of our founding fathers, the men who made this country great.

5. In *MY* perfect world:

- School children start each day standing and reciting the preamble to the Constitution... while facing a copy on the wall.... instead of the Pledge of Allegiance.

- Oaths in court and in Washington take place with the swearer placing their right hand on a copy of the Constitution

- Oaths do NOT end with "so help me God".

- The words on our currency would be changed to "in freedom we trust".... or "in justice we trust".... or "in freedom and justice we trust".
